How about 9550 years old? I guess that pushes the flood back just a little.

Oldest Living Tree Found in Sweden
Right --- here's a quote from that article:
The visible portion of the 13-foot-tall (4-meter-tall) "Christmas tree" isn't ancient, but its root system has been growing for 9,550 years, according to a team led by Leif Kullman, professor at Umeå University's department of ecology and environmental science in Sweden.

Interesting. Here again, we see that a claim is made, and no basis given as to how it is arrived at. Like story telling. Anyone care to explain, or defend 'root system' dating!? :)

What a scream.

Also, a good illustration, that at the root of their claims, is present assumption based constructs.

What gets me is the number of people who just blindly accept that stuff.

Like when Pluto was plutoed, and 100% of the "scientists" here accepted it w/o question.

And [probably] still do.

No, actually, I was just trying to help you guys save a little face. The so called dating that is not even based on actual tree rings, is a farcical and flimsy grasping at PO straws. 'What will a man not give for his theory..'?

Care to explain radiometric dating to us?

That you missed that bit is indeed a scream.

I guess you mean how it was declared not a planet after all. Yes, they feel they have the authority to wave in or out new definitions as they feel suits their overall philosophy.

Apparently God knows all the stars by name, so all names will be changed soon as He takes over forever anyhow. I figure, let em have their little hour of fun, it is meaningless in any true or lasting sense anyhow. :) Everything is getting renamed by Him and us!

Don't it bug you though when someone with 4 or 5 years of college, studying just the physical world, comes on there thinking they're gonna tell someone with 28 years of theology and basic doctrine what's real and what's not?

Really? Twenty eight years of theology, and the best you can come up with is "Goddidit - case closed?"

^_^

It also bugs me when people with twenty eight years of theology spend enormous amounts of time on a science forum, just to make stuff up and ignore reality. And to assume that you somehow understand theology and doctrine more than anyone else is the height of arrogance.

AV, what's this Pluto fetish you have?
Tombaugh's Folly exposed you guys as the type of people who will accept --- without question --- the findings of your peers, even when other of your peers disagree with the finding.

It tells me that the Publish or Perish Principle is alive and well.

From what I understand, there is what is called peer review, and that means that every piece of science has two sides of the coin that scientists get right down and roll in the dirt over; and the one that wins is the one who presents the more evidence --- or gets more votes --- or whatever.

I'd say for every scientist who agrees with Global Warming, there is a scientist who does not.

(But that's just conjecture on my part.)

As I have said before, the mark of a good theologian, in my opinion, is one who can bring everything down to: God did it, and back it up with Scripture.

I wish I was good enough to do that, myself.

I have seen two people in my lifetime answer question after question with nothing but Scripture, to the point he was asked to stop it.

Okay --- three --- I've been asked a couple of times to give my own opinion and quit quoting Scripture.

Jack Van Impe is known as The Walking Bible.
It also bugs me when people with twenty eight years of theology spend enormous amounts of time on a science forum, just to make stuff up and ignore reality.
This isn't a science forum --- hello?

I never said that.

I'm sure there are prodigies that are much better than I.

It's a hard concept to grasp, I know. But as information comes in and technology improves our powers of observation, sometimes you gotta' changes things.

Yeah AV, sometimes science is not as cut and dry as you'd like it to be. So is pluto a distinct planet or part of the Kuiper belt? What does the Bible say Pluto actually is?

And yet those astronomers in the IAU who voted against Pluto getting plutoed had access to just as much information as those who voted to have Pluto plutoed --- and they still disagreed.

But, for some reason, 100% of the people here, even w/o knowing all this information, coincidentally agreed with the vote.

And we are the sheep?

99%, cause I don't really care one way or the other. And yes, you are the sheep.
