I take a biblical educated guess that the pit is closer to the final battle area, mentioned in the bible. Also, I see no smoke coming out of mel's hole. Nor hundreds of millions of the armies of the netherworld! I don't see the Euphrates dried up yet either. When the actual entrance to the spiritual realm below is opened, you will see these things.

Actually, that is not as important as learning the difference between 'I don't know' and 'I do know'! They claim that it more or less has to be water down there. They think. They do not know how it got there, or when.
