Spider Freaks (Caution. Pictures included.)

I noticed this Brown Widow (Latrodectus geometricus) a "cousin" of the Black Widow (Latrodectus hesperus or Latrodectus mactans depending if you are in the west or south).

She made her web on our front steps.

I've actually been bitten by a brown widow before. While their venom is just as toxic (some people consider it more toxic) as a black widow's venom, a brown's venom is contained at the site of the bite and the tissue around the bite, it doesn't spread through the blood stream and cause the nerve pain that the black widow's venom does.

ANYWAY, here are the pictures I just took. Notice brown widow's have a orange hourglass and their color is brown/rust. They also have a geometric pattern on the back of their abdomen, which I couldn't get a clear shot of because widows like to hang upside down.

I love spiders in general as well. Right now, I've been joyfully keeping watch over three American House Spiders who have planted themselves in various areas around my house. They all have egg sacs and already two of the egg sacs have hatched! The little ones are so adorable.

That spider is pretty but I'd be creeped out if it was anywhere near me.
We have all sorts of spiders over here, but I don't know their names. I just refer to them as "big spider" and "little spider".

Widows are dainty! I know she looks huge on the screen but she was only about 3/4 of an inch long in RL. Decent size for a brown widow. I've just always loved the shape of widows. And thank you for being nice!

LOL. The only spider I would ever kill if I came across would be a brown recluse. Sorry, but that thing would be squashed in an instant. Necrotic venom, no thanks.

How cute!!! This one was a little/meduim spider. "Big" to me is one that is is like 3-4 inches.

I was told i was to mean to the spiders before .. perhaps I'm just to hard on spiders but growing up the only spider I was ever taught to be nice to was your friendly neighborhood spiderman

Yay! I think it's awesome when guys love spiders. It's really a turn off when a guy screams like a 13 year old girl over just seeing a spider. It's like, "Ummm. That spider is about 3 feet away from you and is like 2 centimeters long... why are you such a baby?"

I dunno. I think spiders are awesome! I probably like them a LITTLE too much, but oh well.

(I had a pet black widow for about 3 months, until it died. Her name was Charlotte. )

Yeah that thing would have been on my porch for the first two seconds i noticed it...then the next two it would have been in the little creases in the bottom of my shoe. Sorry, h8 spiders
