  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Spare the Rod?
New Research Challenges Spanking Critics

Here's a great article on spanking putting to rest much of the confusion floating around. A must read for any christian wrestling with this issue.

Among it's great points:

More than four out of
five Americans who were
actually spanked by their
parents as children say
that it was an effective
form of discipline.

The critical issue is
how spanking is used
more than whether it
is used.

Any form of discipline
(time-out, restriction,
etc.), when used inappro-
priately and in anger, can
distort a child's perception
of justice and harm his
emotional development.

Remarkably, childhood
aggressiveness has been
more closely linked to
maternal permissiveness
and criticism than to even
abusive physical discipline.

(This one needed to be bolded!)

The use of the term
'violence' in the
spanking debate only
serves to deepen the
confusion.

When effective spanking
is removed from a parent's
disciplinary repertoire, he
or she is left with nagging,
begging, belittling, and
yelling, once the primary
disciplinary measures have
failed.

Parents employing a bal-
anced disciplinary style
of firm control (including
spanking) and positive
encouragement experienced
the most favorable outcome
in their children.

Larzelere concludes that
any association between
spanking and antisocial
aggressiveness in children
is insignificant and
artifactual.

The Swedish experiment to
reduce child abuse by
banning spanking seems
to be failing.

For very compliant children,
milder forms of correction
will suffice and spanking
may never be necessary.

I strongly suggest the entire article.

So is "Gild the lily" not found in Shakespear (it's a misquote of "to gild refined gold, to paint the lily", or "money is the root of all evil" is not found in Scripture (a misquote of "the love of money is the root of all evil").

Just because common usage misquotes the exact wording does not make it less of an insightful proverb.

*doesn't even want to get into "what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander" or "the proof of the pudding is in the eating"*

I believe the lack of domestic discipline is one of the greater problems facing our country. In the old times if your wife acted up you would just up and spank her, get things done right. Now you go to counseling and all this expensive shyte, well spare the rod, spoil the woman i say. Not a rod thicker than your thumb, it used to be the law till the feminazis (the Illuminati in disguise) hijacked the internet and changed the law now its damned illegal to spank your woman! This here countries turning into an awwwful mess thats what i say.

The earliest memory I have of being turned on by a depiction of spanking was in a Peter Rabbit picture book. Is that a part of this "liberal media"?

The buttocks (like female breasts) are a secondary erogenous zone; it's an anatomical fact, and even a legal one (see R.C. 2907.01(B)).

Ugh, it's hard to find articles about it without pictures. :o

http://books.google.com/books?id=Og...njDokv&sig=nwPG2Goj7qlcbPbERKCBS0fODzwhttp://

...and,

From the Oxford University Press:

"The sexual life of early childhood is not confined to the stimulation of erotogenic zones, for so-called component instincts can emerge independently of those zones. The instinct to see and be seen, even though it is not autoerotic in nature and calls for an outside object, may turn the eye into the equivalent of an erotogenic zone. Likewise, the cruelty component of the sexual instinct, which seems at first even more independent of the erotogenic zones, is in fact linked to the instinct for mastery and to the musculature. By contrast, the skin of the buttocks, because of the chastisements it so often receives, can easily become an erotogenic zone and the site of passive masochistic pleasure."

You can list all the liberal sites you want, it doesn't change the fact parents that spank don't get sexually aroused by it. Those parents that do would get sexually aroused by any contact.

My kids sat on my lap, should that sexually arouse me?
They slept in the bed with me, kissed me, ect. I bathed them, washed them, ect. If you are correct, then parents should stop doing all things that would bring them in contact with their children. I guess even wiping the rear in your opinion is sexual abuse.

This is the liberal argument that would take all parental rights away and place them in the hands of govenment.

I can assure you I never got aroused my spanking my children, washing them, ect.

Parents that do should be punished.
