Trick question from the spoutmeister / threadjacker

There is no "atheist doctrine".

There is no "atheist doctrine".

That's part of why I said no.

I think they do but consider it more like software, for lack of a better word, then an ethereal inner self.

Shouldn't this thread be titled "Souls and atheism?"

But then it couldn't be in the CrEvo section.

True enough. Thought this would be an interesting question and then I saw "atheist doctrine" (?) in the first line, which kinda ruled me out of discussion.

That's not stopping Mark from telling us atheists what we think.

Moot, because there is no atheist doctrine.

According to those who believe in souls, when a human embryo splits into two separate entities, say, five days after conception, does the soul likewise split in two, or does a new soul get implanted..? In other words, do identical twins have half a soul apiece, or is one of them soulless at conception? (Just a simple Either/Or will do, please --- this isn't an invitation to spout.)

Anyone besides Skaloop and Mark Kennedy want to answer this?

So far, I have an atheist that says NO:

  • a Buddhist that thinks it's a trick question
  • a Seeker that doesn't know your doctrine
  • an Agnostic who says you don't have any doctrine
  • a Christian who thought the title should be reworded
Anyone else?

And, of course, I agree with those saying that atheists have no doctrine.
You can deny it all you want, but the dictionary says otherwise.

All I'm asking is, is there a science book somewhere that has a chapter on the soul of a human being?

Is this taught in biology, or anthropology, or [whatever] class as science?

You've either been taught it, or you haven't.

You would know --- I wouldn't.

We finally agree on something, that is, you wouldn't know.

The concept of the soul is a metaphysical one. It is usually left to religions and philosophers to debate and define. The soul is not empiracally observable, and therefore cannot be falsified.

Again, what is a "glorified" ape, and what is atheist "doctrine"?
