The Hebrew Scriptures{OT} promised that the meek shall inherit the earth.
Jesus also said that the meek shall inherit the earth{Matthew 5:5}
Psalm 37:9-11 (King James Version)

9For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.
10For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.
11But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

God promised Abraham and his decendants the land of Canaan as an everlasting possession.
Genesis 17:8 (King James Version)

8And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

Paul said that God’s promise to Abraham was a promise that Abraham would inherit the world.
Romans 4:13 (King James Version)

13For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

Paul said that the gentiles would also receive the blessings promised to Abraham.
Galatians 3:14 (King James Version)

14That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Paul said that the gentiles were also Abraham’s decendants and would inherit the promise.{the world}

Galatians 3:29 (King James Version)

29And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

But Abraham never even inherited even one foot of land.
Acts 7:5 (King James Version)

5And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.

So Abraham never received the promise that God gave to him.
Why would we expect that anyone else would receive an inheritance if God has not fulfilled even his "Premier" promise?

Because a promise has not been fulfilled in the past tense, doesn't mean that it won't be. God's promises in the Bible are applicable to all people, of all times. Some of the promises to Abraham are still pending fulfillment, but it must be understood that these promises apply to all of the Tribes of Israel, including those who are termed "lost". In reality, they did not simply vanish, but became mingled with the rest of the Earth's population. Most of these people do not have any idea of their relationship with Israel, but God knows each of them intimately.

But, it must also be understood that to be offspring of Abraham doesn't necessarily mean by blood only. Any person, regardless of their heritage, may be grafted into this lineage by spirit, because it was by his faith that Abraham found favor in God's eye. Therefore, anyone can obtain the same favor, if their faith merits it.

We are now approaching a time when the total fulfillment of God's promises shall become reality.

It's a question worth asking.

Many of the times God has intervened and spoked directly to people, there was risk in the promise being fulfilled. I believe that is why
He feels it important to show up with such strength and clarity about goals.

There is no need for prophesy when we already have things locked up. But when there's a rough road ahead, we need something to get us through, to give us hope to cling on to our visions.

There were times in history when the people let go of this promise, and allowed themselves to be vulnerable to outside forces. A temporary error does not mean that God has changed His mind... more importantly, that He still offers them hope and forgiveness.

On another note, there's a spiritual side to this. Abraham is known as much for his paternity as he is for his justification by faith. Even into the later books of the New Testament, he is respected for his faith being as unto righteousness... he is an icon of God's merciful covering over us.

The concept of devotion being more important than striving for perfection began with Abraham. He is the father of forgiveness theology. (-: He has many, many children in this concept; his influence has spread throughout the world, down through generations to this point and on. His lineage of influence will never end.

Most of us want a name for ourselves... an inner knowledge that we have done something good to impact the world. We aren't as concerned about lineage as people were thousands of years ago, but we all understand the desire for influence.

Land is a place to rest our feet. The heart or mind is an invaluable territory.

Dear stuartshepherd, I always believed it means, what it says; the meek shall inherit, the meek shall receive, the meek shall have it all in the end. The meek are the ones, who do not grab, who do not take, who do not fight or steal, they wait and it shall be given to them. Wait lovingly and patiently, for all that has been promised to us, always thank with a grateful heart, don`t be as the world is, follow our Shepherd, He will lead us to rich pastures. I say this humbly (meekly) and lovingly, stuartshepherd, and send greetings. Emmy, sister in Christ.

This land will be inherited by Isreal
which is made up of Christians only.
Just for the benefit of the OP, I want to mention that not all Christians believe the same thing. And of course we all have individual opinions and our own personal research that leads us to express different things.

When God spoke to a group of Israelites, I don't think He was playing games with them and secretly planning to flip the promise over to the Gentiles... knowing that His words would eventually go into written form and be canonized and then read by Christians two millenia later.

Yes, there are certain verses we can apply to our lives and translate into spiritual form. And there are many times we find dual meaning and dual application of a prophecy. But God worked with people on their real needs, and helped them survive in their world.

He will inherit the land.. though his Seed...

The land THEY were on... and now the Land that was to given to the Gentiles though Christ.

God gave his promise.. and held it.. I do not see your point...

This is really an issue of misuse of taking only one section of the bible and not reading the whole of it.

God Bless

Stuart Shepherd

it is a promise that is still going to be fulfilled in the future. God's point of view includes past, present, and future. He has plans for many even after death. He does not limit us by death. Abraham will recieve all the promises in the right time.

Hebrews 11:11-16" By faith Abraham, even though he was past age-and Sarah herself was barren- was enabled to become a father because he considered him faithful who had made the promise. And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.

All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not recieve the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. Instead, they were longing for a better country- a heavenly one." Hebrews 11:11-16

The first death that all men experience except for those righteous few that live to see the Lord's return, is not the final death, and there are two resurrection - one for the righteous in Christ and one for those not in Christ where the books are opened at the Great White Throne judgment.
Indeed, God has power over life, death, time, and eternity. He has the power to fulfill all of His words of promise to Abraham and mankind.
