Actually I see more of the proclaiming of the reps than the existence of a caring community! We all need to really work on creating one and perhaps brainstorm and work on the sort of ideal community we want to create here ..

Rep Daddy tries to do that. He is always coming up with ways to get everyone here involved in threads etc. I think there are a lot of people that do that as well. I know I've started 3 threads this morning and haven't really had a lot of response to them. I know others have started threads and have gotten about the same. As the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. :sorry:

It's an internal thing - until people view this differently, that's what we'll have: standing in line with a hand out & demanding more. Maybe that's what this subforum will end up being - just by its nature.
Is it greed? I dunno.

I guess that is probably why asking for reps was banned when I joined. I don't know when they lifted that ban, as I only found out about this sub-forum 3 days ago. (And I have been a member for over 2 years).

Ya, I had that comment in my first post but removed it. I think that might be exactly why they made that a rule.

Look what happened tho - we just got bumped from 20 reps up to 40 (for site supporters) from 20/10 up to 40/20. Doubled.

Within 1 month a petition went up to give us UNLIMITED REPS becuz what they gave just wasn't enough. I posted on that petition to say I wouldn't sign it becuz it ruins the value of reps (for starters).
But this is our nature isn't it? Nothing is enough.

Like you said, it was the same way when I joined. We couldn't ask for reps & I rarely got them even when I was trying & playing games.
Now it's expected & demanded... and we want more.

fellowship threads fail even after being 'nursed' for a week or so. So.... it's interesting - I'm trying to see this from a spiritual aspect of what our nature is.
interesting to see.

It seems that those who have high repping power, and thus the greatest ability to help those of us with lower reps, only rep the other high rep people. This just makes the rep rich get richer and the rep poor stay that way. Why aren't we all helping eachother? There are some people here with huge reps whose reps I've seen go up a couple million in a day while those with no stars try and try and seem to get nowhere.

This has been really bothering me and it is part of the reason why Bella and I started the thread to help those with no stars. It almost seems like this place has just become a place to either flaunt how many stars you have or to beg and beg so that you can become one who flaunts how many stars you have. I'm not posting this to try and get more people to rep me, but I thought that this really needed to be pointed out.
This is completely not true. I have helped others without stars get stars.

As a newbee to these rep threads, but not to the Christian forum. I find this area to be a fellowshiping area. To come and have fun with each other.

Yes this does happen and can be frustrating but hang in there and don't worry about stars. They make the star part an extra plus, and just like in life there will be those who only think of advancement and getting ahead no matter what.

There are many wonderful people here, looking forward to get to know you!

God Bless

Sorry you are seeing it that way.......

It wasn't too long ago, that I had no stars..... people helped me and I help others. In fact, I just gave you reps in another thread, before I even saw this, for people trying to get their 2nd star. I try to spread mine around. I like to be sure to rep people back who rep me, I rep newbies and I also rep people for actual good posts in threads.
Sadly there are only so many a day to go around. We all have our pet peeves, I am sure. Sometimes I get discouraged as some people no matter how many times you rep them, don't reciprocate, but you have to take the lumps and focus on the good. There is much more fun and good then there is negative things to focus on, so that's what I do.

God bless
hey, that's another great point - I've repped people 3 & 4 times & got nothing back...
All I do is stop repping and give them to others instead & build a rep rappore with somebody else.

I agree, I'm here for fun and I have alot of fun.

I can also attest to MMX's comment here - she's overly generous & helpful w/ rep help to others.

I totally agree with you Nadiine. It is supposed to be a fun thing. Each of us are given either 20 or 40 (Site Supporters) a day. Those are our reps to do with however we please.

However, if we are being pressured into repping someone it sure does take the fun out of it and then resentment sets in. I don't want that for any of us here. That would just make this not worth doing at all.

I mean, I could go anywhere on the board and rep whomever I want. I come here for the fellowship that I've developed along the way. To me, that's far more important than reps.

Now I do understand how she feels as I've been there before. But as I said, I changed how I felt about it because I didn't like how it was making me feel. I realized my attitude was not good and it was effecting how I felt towards others. Once I let that go and just enjoyed giving out my reps that made a difference. For it truly is better to give than receive.

Some do Shali yes. & I do all I can to get new threads going to populate more areas & help bring us all together...
At the same time, I don't like to be pressured and feeling guilty when I'm trying to have a good time here either.

There are probably alot of reasons people rep who they rep. In my case, most of my friends happen to have either high or a good amount of stars (at least 6+).
I also keep a list and rep back who reps me.
That means that most of my reps are very limited and I have to ration them... I can't just go helping people when I owe reps to people (many of them who have low rep #) in return.
This has been my issue that I've mentioned on the boards here a few times now. It happened ever since I hit 10 stars to be exact.

But this is also supposed to be FUN. I'd like to take this opportunity to remind everybody that if we're starting to fight & have "issues" over the reps, that maybe we should take a step back and do some searching about how important these things have become to us!!

This should BE FUN. if it's causing problems, then there's a problem. I'm starting to see issues come up with some threads lately.

When I first joined here almost 2 years ago, it took me over a year just to get a couple hundred thousand reps.
CF didn't even allow rep begging like this. You were lucky to get any depending on where you hung out.
Now new people come in & just expect to get 10 stars in a week... I mean......
what's going on here?

This is starting to make me wonder what's going on. I'm sorry, but I don't want to see fights & resentments in a fun game area. I thought I should speak up as to how I feel & just get it out on the table.
I want to have FUN here - if it turns into more than that, I"m shutting my rep hand off and leaving this area becuz I don't want this going on for me here.
sorry, this is disheartening to me to see.
:(

 :amen:

I look at a rep as a hug from someone not as a power or ego thing. And I think most people feel the same way.

Repaholics proclaim that reps are what it is about here... but we know that is not the case. It is about building a caring community.

I don't know if this is why or not, but it is true for me and that is that I usually enter
the repaholic support section by my subscribed threads, so I don't see any of those
other threads UNLESS I venture out, which I do on occasion,
(which is how I came upon this one and a few others).
But most of the time by autopilot, I go to threads, in ALL areas, by
my subscribed thread links. Just a thought.....

if you notice, MOST DON'T. dont' ask me why.

That's a good point  (and since you're innocent, I won't send you an ugly PM about this problem) :p

I thought I'd mention it again, that one reason it can LOOK like higher reppers aren't repping lower ones is, they don't hang out & do all the threads.
They aren't circulating & participating in most all of those threads. I rarely see them in there, but that doesn't mean they aren't out and about handing reps to help.
I think that's what makes it look like that, but it isn't the case. (just my .02).

Hello, Shali :)

Well, I guess you may say I'm one of those with high repping power, but I have been a member in CF for coming up 4 years in July. There are many others not too far below me in rep power who have been here for far less time, but the nature of repping has changed dramatically in recent months with requesting reps allowed now and with the increase in the number of reps able to be gifted in any one day.

I hear what you're saying, though. :) For myself, I have a very small group of pals, no more than 8, whom I rep every day and with whom I have built up a friendship over time. Of those, most have been folk whom I began repping when they were very new here and the rep system provided a great way to send a cheery, encouraging coment to them each day. In addition I also rep heaps of other folks in no particular order, and I usually have at least two much newer folk whom I'm repping daily as well as an encouragement to them.

I think, as Nadiine said, that I and others are moving around CF, repping, and our lack of posts in the main part of this forum should not lead folk to assume that we're not repping anyone other than high reppers.

I head up the Star Alpha Dream Team and I thought of it because I know that there are heaps of members and I simply cannot rep them all. :) So the idea of forming a team was birthed and it's going well, though we do focus on newer members, and not necessarily those who post in this forum. Viper, whom I asked to help lead the team with me, chooses the folk from all corners of CF. The main idea with Star Alpha is not the repping of a newer member up to a star, though that does happen, but about welcoming and encouraging the member and helping them to feel at ease in CF.

Shali, if it weren't for the fact that I know you and I know they way your tone of voice would sound while you were saying what you said, I would think that this post was a little hostile and self serving. I know and understand your frusturation, but one of the reasons that the high reppers rep eachother is that they have long standing friendships. Many of us (myself only on and off) have been long fellowshiping in BE and know eachother from there. True, we should work a little harder (as a whole) in bringing more people into that community since sometimes things appear the way that they do, but people are certainly giving alot of reps that they don't announce.

Joining a new community is always a little hard, but just keep posting and don't worry so much about what people are doing for the starless, you are helping them and that is great. People follow set examples, not guilt trips (not that I'm saying that you were trying to guilt trip anyone).

I guess that I really shouldn't post how I feel late at night... things come out wrong. Sorry to those that I offended. Looking over things, I can see some really great threads that have been started over the past few days. Every person who responded to this had every right to respond just as they did.
