Christians in Gaza Fear for Their Lives as Muslims Burn Bibles and Destroy Crosses - Associated Content - associatedcontent.com

Father Manuel Musallem, head of Gaza's Latin church, told the AP that Muslims have ransacked, burned and looted a school and convent that are part of the Gaza Strip's small Romany Catholic community. He told the AP that crosses were broken, damage was done to a statue of Jesus, and at the Rosary Sister School and nearby convent, prayer books were burned.

Father Musalam additionally told The Jerusalem Post that the Muslim gunmen used rocket-propeled grenades (RPGs) to blow through the doors of the church and school, before burning Bibles and destroying every cross they could get their hands on.

To put the Quran burning issue into perspective, I think it's important to realize that Muslims have been terrorising Christians for a long time (Jews too). The above is by no means an isolated incident.

Of course, the international community was outraged at these actions and Christians worldwide protested and called for the deaths of Muslims and destruction of Muslims countries.....right? Actually no. As usual, everytime there is ANY affront to Islam, their reaction is to protest, kill, destroy and issue fatwa's against those involved. Christians on the other hand are expected to just take it. Put up and shut up. In part it is our Christian view of "turn the other cheek", but also the world holds Christianity to a higher standard. In addition, most in the world are deathly afraid of radical Islamofacism. Who's afraid of Christians?

I agree. There is always two sides to a story.
What is the other side to that story?

Is the moral of the story: somewhere in the world a group of Muslims did something to some Christians, therefore Christians in a totally different part of the world are justified in doing a similar thing to a totally different group of Muslims?

I love this perspective. Justify our actions because they do it, then drag ourselves down to their level :)

Christians are tired of turning the other cheek.

The whole time condemning them for acting like we now do... gotta love it.

Kind of hard to be tired of something that's done so rarely.
I think you're both jumping to conclusions.

Perhaps if they just moved their church to a more respectable distance?

Tens of thousands of Muslims died during the Battle of Constantinople, frankly, I don't understand why they where even so liberal to allow a Christian Church to remain at the site of one of the worst battles in Ottoman history.

Too true! That's sacred ground! (And I'll bet there's not a single strip club or ORB parlor to be found there!)

;););)

Patriarch Bartholomew Feels "Crucified" - 60 Minutes - CBS News

He showed us the monastery's collection of Byzantine icons, the largest and oldest collection of icons in the world.

Then he took us to what the patriarch really wanted us to see: a little-known letter written by the Prophet Mohammed, almost 1,400 years ago, signed and sealed with his hand print, offering protection and religious freedom to the Christians of the monastery.

"These are precedents from Mohammed himself for toleration and peace among people of differing faiths," Father Justin explained.

The patriarch then brought us back to the 21st century and Turkey, to his own back yard. He took us for a ride on an island off of Istanbul in a carriage, with a police escort. The patriarch wanted to show us that Mohammed's message of tolerance has not been received by the Turkish authorities.

His prime example is the Halki School of Theology, the only Greek Orthodox seminary in Turkey. Empty and abandoned, there are no priest and no prayers.

The Halki was closed down by Turkish authorities after passage of a law banning private higher education. That was back in 1971.
So, it's not the Muslims per se who banned it, but the secular authorities - and not because it was Christian but because it was private.

I think you're both jumping to conclusions.

IN NO WAY AM I JUSTIFYING ANYTHING. IN FACT JUST THE OPPOSITE. I THINK QURAN BURING IS STUPID. BUT I THINK BIBLE BURNING IS ALSO STUPID AND I THINK DESTROYING CHRISTIAN PROPERTY AND KILLING CHRISTIANS IS WRONG. BUT WHEN IT HAPPENS TO CHRISTIANS, THEY ARE EXPECTED TO DO NOTHING BUT TURN THE OTHER CHEEK. WHEN QUARANS ARE BURNED, MUSLIMS REACT VERY BADLY TO ANY SLIGHT OF THEIR RELIGION AND LAUNCH VIOLENT PROTESTS, BURN CHRISTIAN STUFF AND HAVE A FIELD DAY.

LET'S SAY INSTEAD OF TURNING THE OTHER CHEECK, THE CHRISTIAN WORLD REACTED AS THE MUSLIMS. WHAT DO YOU THINK THE REACTION WOULD BE??? CHRISTIANS WOULD BE PILLORIED! THE DOUBLE STANDARD IS SO OBVIOUS EXCEPT TO MUSLIMS AND THEIR APOLOGISTS.

If he really felt crucified, he'd have holes in his ankles and wrists.

I thought Turkey was secular these days.

You have no clue. It is increasingly becoming militant islamic.

Perhaps if they just moved their church to a more respectable distance?

The Hagia Sofia was there first. The Muslims descecrated it and turned it into a mosque. Putting a mosque somewhere means that they have conquered it.

Some of you folks are clearly deficient in your knowledge of Islamic history. It has always been a violent religion hell-bent on jihad. Do a little research guys. I find it interesting that left-wing liberalism and Muslilm are in bed together. I wonder if liberals know that radical Islam is using them to achieve their world domination objective?

Hi Veritas

For the record I expect Muslims to turn the other cheek as well. No free passes from me :)

What I think it might come down to though is not that we have higher expectations of Christians (although we probably do a little) but that we have higher expectations of AMERICANS. I think there is far more social pressure in this country to curb such incendiary actions. (ha, regretfully unintentional pun) Well...against religion anyways.

If it is not an attempt to justify koran burning, then it is simply Muslim bashing.

I thought this was a forum for American politics. Why post what happens in the middle east in this forum if it does not apply to America?

BURN CHRISTIAN STUFF AND HAVE A FIELD DAY :)

"And revile not those whom they call upon beside Allah, lest they, out of spite, revile Allah in their ignorance. Thus unto every people have We caused their doing to seem fair. Then unto their Lord is their return; and He will inform them of what they used to do."~Qur'an.

All the stuff in this thread attributed to Muslims such as Bible burning, etc., is not halal. Islam is not telling them to do this (in fact it is the opposite), in the same way that the mad antics of Pastor Jones were not the result of Christian teachings.
