I just don't get why people like that Mia dance so much. Honestly, I didn't like it. I got that she was seeing her dearly departed father & all that jazz, but it just wasn't that good IMHO. I think people are praising it just because it's so touchy feely they don't want to hurt anybody's feelings. I just didn't think it was a very good performance, IMHO. To be honest, none of the dances really stood out tonight.
I LOVED the dance because it moved me, deep inside my heart.
I purposely don't share my age here, but I will say this; I also lost my dad, to the same horrid disease - lung cancer. But it was quite a bit more than 2 years ago.
This dance touched me with it's joy of reunion. I cried during the whole thing and kept crying when it was over. It will be a wonderful experience to one day see my beloved dad again.
I understand that you are not touched the same way, but hope you can understand that others were NOT just being nice. Mary couldn't even speak, for her own personal reasons....I hope you can accept that as real.
I'm sure there will be others who feel as you do....absolutely sure of it. That's just part of what is interesting about we human beings, we're all very different.
And, for what it's worth, I came into watching this show with a HUGE dislike for contemporary dance. I love traditional dance and tend to favor it over other styles, having been trained in ballet and tap.
Mia has opened my mind to being more willing to look at contemporary again. I find she has a gift for expressing emotion through movement in a way that tells a story that makes sense. The dance she did for Lacey and Kameron near the beginning of the season will remain one of my all-time favorites.
Although I don't like all the dances equally by any means, the choreographers have done a tremendous job presenting so many different styles and I've loved seeing them all.
