How many children have to die before we recognize we cannot own guns responsibly? The evidence is clear- our gun loving culture is out of control. I own guns and use them responsibly, but I don't love them more than the lives that are sacrificed for this so-called freedom. It would be great if we could change the mentality, and immaturity, of our culture. I'm all for it. But when children are a danger to themselves, we protect them. Since we act like a bunch if children with our guns, we either need regulations across the board or just take them away.

That's a huge generalization because there are a lot of responsible gun owners. But they don't make the news.

You don't just get to take away my rights because there are a few who abuse theirs.

It’s gonna be option B and it’s deluded to think otherwise. No amount of chanting “this time is different” will make it so.

I am prepared to, but have no expectation of, eating those words should I be wrong.

Oh, I know. The irony is, people fear gun regulation because they think it's a zero sum game, but unless we regulate effectively and embrace it, they will be taken away. Hide and watch.

We don't get gun rights handed down from God. Gun rights are for a responsible citizenry, which we are not. We don't have a well regulated militia, we have gun loving citizens killing each other because we can't handle daily life. We are a foolish, spoiled, irresponsible people that need to be baby-sitted by our government. If we don't like it, we need to change the culture.

Watch the video, then tell me if you still believe that. Because you're assuming the government that needs to "baby-sit" us is, and will always be, responsible.

Some history of gun control in the 20th century. Does anyone care about the children killed by their own governments after having disarmed their populations? If it's a numbers game, democide is far far worse in casualties

There was another thread with a similar list of places and events like this vid. The problem with using this argument is that none of them actually involves a situation where an armed public was disarmed, and then the state killed them. Just look into it (without using sites that only confirm the same simplistic assertions). The situations cited don’t fit the argument you are making.

I disagree, but I invite everyone to watch the video and decide for themselves.

And they're not melting pots like the US, which I think does have to be considered as a factor in the cohesiveness of a society.
Blame it on the immigrants.

Those countries have much smaller populations.
There are far fewer incidents of this kind in Europe as a whole, which is slightly larger and has a significantly higher population than the US.

To the contrary, my ancestors would have been immigrants as well.

But as long as we're on the subject, although I'm conservative, I want the southern borders open wide to those immigrants that typically enter through it, as they tend to be religious (from Catholic countries) and family-oriented. It's just the gangs and drugs I don't want entering.

No, I'm assuming the obvious - we have created a culture of gun loving people who shoot each other without a thought for consequences. We deal with our problems by shooting each other. It's not "them," it's us. Either we change things, which won't happen, or we regulate. I don't need a video to tell me which way the wind blows.

Which of the cases cited in the vid involves a country where the public were armed, the government disarmed them, and then killed large numbers of them - because they were no longer armed? Or some other variation of that scenario that involves people being killed after their firearms taken away? One of the situations referred to in the other thread was Armenia, however that simplistic gloss completely misrepresents what actually happened. Is there a historical scenario that does fit?

The video doesn’t contain enough information to make any kind of decision. It’s just someone’s belief with a quick gloss of misleading factoids used dishonestly to make a point.

I love threads where everyone is essentially talking past each other, all the while each person is thinking "I'm addressing exactly and no less than the point the other person is making ..."

:dontcare:... it doesn't get any better than this!

We deal with our problems by shooting each other.

We deal with our problems by attacking the symptoms, not the disease. That will never work.

I don't need a video to tell me which way the wind blows.

As Christians, we already know which way the wind will blow, guns or no. Things will only get worse.

I don't think you're taking into account that @Tom 1 is actually watching videos and responding appropriately. You can't blame everybody because I'm out of control, Philo. ^_^

I don't disagree, but we're not dealing with our problems. We're passing the buck and pointing fingers.

As Christians, we already know which way the wind will blow, guns or no. Things will only get worse

I reject the premise. It's irresponsible to not try to change. God is not impressed, I'm sure.

The world as such is getting better and better.

The USA compared to the rest of the world is getting worse and worse, though. Not because the life in the USA is worse than before, but because other countries are more successful than the USA.
