  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I suffer from SEVERE ANXIETY and I'm scared doing the things I use to do like watch tv, read magazines being able to relax. Just because I think God doesn't approve of those things, but I don't see myself being able to stop this things because they make me happy. What advise can y'all give me?

Your fear and anxiety is coming from your thoughts that "you think God does not approve of those things." If you are watching TV for good, then it is as a friend I know whom has this saying, "It's all good". And if it's all good, then there is nothing to fear. You can also invite God to watch TV and to read magazines along with you.

Vanessa, the thing to remember is this: Don't allow
those "things" to monopolize so much of your time
that they become your world and your faith walk
is abandoned.

Use your time wisely, so you can study God's Word, share Christ's love
with others and you have time to enjoy your hobbies also.
Keep the Lord in the Number One position.

Try focusing on the Psalms for a few weeks. In them, you can see the positive and negative emotions of a believer. There are psalms where you can see David holding back from exploding, and ones where he even wishes evil on his enemies. God still allows that to be part of His printed Word.

I always find that the Psalms flow up and down with my emotions, and I can almost always relate to what is being said. God is still highly glorified, while human emotions are being expressed.

The best advice I can give is to get some therapy and medication. I too have issues with anxiety; there is nothing wrong with you as a person, but your body obviously has some chemical issues that are causing your anxiety. As soon as I started taking the meds my doctor prescribed, I felt more myself than ever and I feel much more content and relaxed and I feel like I am finally able to get in touch with God and have a real relationship with Him, because I am more in touch with reality.

Exactly. I can absolute vouch for this Vanessa. Go see a competent doctor. There are remedies out there. You can live a normal life. God bless you sister. :prayer:

A knife can be used to heal by making an operation with it, or to kill. Similar with TV. You can use it for good or bad purpose.

Romans 15:13, Psalm 121:7, Psalm 46:1, Psalm 62:8, 68:19, 2 Corinthians 1:3-11, 4:16-18, 7:6, 12:8,9,10, Psalm 43:5, Psalm 119:50, Psalm 34, Psalm 42:5, Psalm 86, Job 29:3, Isaiah 25:8, 30:18,19,20, 40:1, 41:10,13,14, Psalm 69, Psalm 13, Psalm 94:19, Lamentations 3:1-66

Vanessa I think what eloy means about watching tv with god, is to let him into all your life for example watching tv or reading a magazine is not sinful, but if someone looked at an erotic magazine or a pornographic film on tv, that would be sinful, be lead by the spirit, ask the holy spirit to show what is right to watch and what is not, some people are more sensitive to things than others for example I have two friends that are sensitive to different things, one only has to see even the slightest of violence and it's upsetting for him and my other friend is the same with anything of a sexual nature, God has shown them what they are sensitive too, I can watch a bit of violence and it's ok but if I watch people doing drugs or watch someone drinking that can affect me because I used to drink and do drugs, it's the same with music, rave and dance music I cannot be anyway near its too dangerous for me, God has shown me this. Pray to God, say if you would like to, that you would like to watch tv but you don't know what is ok for you to watch, if you like certain programmes watch them but be sensitive to what God has to say about them he knows what is good for you. God bless you

Are you kidding when you say to invite God to watch Tv and magazines with me? Are you kidding around? How could I do that?

God is with us always with us. I find nowhere that says God does not want us to have a good time and relax. One of the most frequent phrases in the Bible is
"Fear Not" if there is wrong doing for a Christian it is in being in constant fear.

If this was not a problem BF then this is a "fear of God's disapproval". Read and study and you will find that God loves us like a parent loves a child. Parents love to see their children enjoy, explore, learn and he happy, do you find the love of God to be different than that?

it's all Good-Enjoy your life-joy is what becoming a Christian is all about-Jesus did the suffering for you..

This is something that requires help beyond advice. I also suffer from anxiety, and I really believe that counseling and in some cases, medication can help tremendously. My doc put me on some medication that has really helped...I feel like myself again, and have stopped having panic attacks. I would really recommend checking into this as an option.

I need prayer. I had a Anxiety attack in July and I still have Severe Anxiety but the Doctor put me on Xanax but I have been weaning myself of it because my Mom thinks that is what put her in the hospital. Do you guys have any other suggestions. I am a college graduate looking for a job stuck at my parents house with my wife.

I too am in a constant battle with anxiety. Anytime I feel out of control whether it be a financial situation, flying in a plane, a difficult relationship, etc., I become filled with fear. It always helps me to look back at my life and remember how God worked to carry me through difficult situations. He has never abandoned me and He never will. Praising God and and acknowleding my blessings has always been a great remedy.

Some anxieties come from our fear of what people will say. We try to do everything right, in line with what people expect. But people are fickle, and not always looking out for your best interests. Allow the strongest voices in your life to have less power over you. Which would be worse -- to endure an insult, or to be continually in fear of insults? Let more things skim over your back.

Also, make sure not to add false realities that put your mind into anxiety state. Playing a tense game will get your body into that reaction state, so the chemical release and interactions will put strain on your body and make it harder to recover, IMO. Avoid toxic people for a while. Take things our of your house that causes negative reactions when you walk past them. Treat it as a temporary time where you need a narrower focus on positive input. You have to take care of yourself.

I suffer from SEVERE ANXIETY and I'm scared doing the things I use to do like watch tv, read magazines being able to relax.
I suffered as a younger person with terrible anxiety, too. I used to have multiple panic attacks, one right after the other, 'til I thought my heart was going to explode! I couldn't sleep, couldn't breathe properly, couldn't swallow easily. I was a mess. It wasn't drugs that solved my problem with anxiety, though. Drugs will never remedy such a problem, only mask it. It was only as I got serious with God and began to walk rightly with Him that I came free of my anxiety/OCD.

A big part of finding relief from my anxiety came about as I learned to trust God's love for me. I had come to believe God was Someone to be feared, Someone who would give with one hand and take away with the other. Whatever good He did me was going to be countered with something bad. I thought He was an eager Punisher of Sin, just waiting to strike me down if I stepped wrong. It wasn't until I allowed God to correct this very warped view of Him, that my anxiety was relieved.

1 John 4:18
18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

You are afraid, as so many believers seem to be these days, because you have not been made perfect (or complete) in love. When you are fully confident in the love God has for you, when you trust His love for you above all else, then your fears will be dissolved.

Just because I think God doesn't approve of those things, but I don't see myself being able to stop this things because they make me happy. What advise can y'all give me?
Your acceptance with God, if you are a believer, is not - and never will be - contingent upon your behaviour. God accepts you as His child because of what Christ did, not because of something you have done. As a child of God you are clothed in Christ's righteousness and it is in this condition that God sees you and accepts you. And because the work of Christ on the cross was perfect, fully and forever satisfying God's justice, God's acceptance of you as His child never fluctuates or changes. You cannot sin so grievously that you exceed the perfect sacrifice of Christ for your sins. "Where sin abounded grace did much more abound," the Bible says. (Ro. 5:20) Your acceptance with God is utterly unshakeable because it rests upon Christ's perfect sacrificial work for you on the cross. So, relax, trust that God does love as you deeply as He says He does, and snuggle up to Him as your Heavenly Father. :)
