I suffered as a younger person with terrible anxiety, too. I used to have multiple panic attacks, one right after the other, 'til I thought my heart was going to explode! I couldn't sleep, couldn't breathe properly, couldn't swallow easily. I was a mess. It wasn't drugs that solved my problem with anxiety, though. Drugs will never remedy such a problem, only mask it. It was only as I got serious with God and began to walk rightly with Him that I came free of my anxiety/OCD.
A big part of finding relief from my anxiety came about as I learned to trust God's love for me. I had come to believe God was Someone to be feared, Someone who would give with one hand and take away with the other. Whatever good He did me was going to be countered with something bad. I thought He was an eager Punisher of Sin, just waiting to strike me down if I stepped wrong. It wasn't until I allowed God to correct this very warped view of Him, that my anxiety was relieved.
1 John 4:18
18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
You are afraid, as so many believers seem to be these days, because you have not been made perfect (or complete) in love. When you are fully confident in the love God has for you, when you trust His love for you above all else, then your fears will be dissolved.
Your acceptance with God, if you are a believer, is not - and never will be - contingent upon your behaviour. God accepts you as His child because of what
Christ did, not because of something
you have done. As a child of God you are clothed in Christ's righteousness and it is in this condition that God sees you and accepts you. And because the work of Christ on the cross was perfect, fully and forever satisfying God's justice, God's acceptance of you as His child never fluctuates or changes. You cannot sin so grievously that you exceed the perfect sacrifice of Christ for your sins.
"Where sin abounded grace did much more abound," the Bible says. (
Ro. 5:20) Your acceptance with God is utterly unshakeable because it rests upon Christ's perfect sacrificial work for you on the cross. So, relax, trust that God does love as you deeply as He says He does, and snuggle up to Him as your Heavenly Father.
Selah.
