Perhaps it might be of benefit for you to go back and apologise for failing to post in fellowship. That is the core of the congregations forums, that they be a place where we don't have to be defending ourselves against attacks all the time. I don't blame the members of OBOB having itchy "report post" fingers as they have traditionally copped the worst from certain groups on CF over the years.

Well, in many ways, I have actually thought of severe punishment like that - forgive me for my sinfulness and Phariseeism, but there are times where I wonder if Pedophiles should be given the death penalty - and an organized structure was established to "hunt down" Pedophilic priests.

The conclusion I ultimately have come to is the fact that, although such an effort might be great for preventing networks from forming, it's an indisputable fact that the pedophile network in Roman is so large and massive and goes all the way to near the highest, if not the Pope himself, in protecting itself and proliferating itself, such that I feel that such measures will only actively encourage these wicked men to be as efficient and threatening as possible in proliferating their network. After all, they no longer just risk ruined careers - they risk death, or chopped off testicles in your case. The only way that would solve this issue is by having such an organized structure that hunts them down be efficient - but then you risk McCarthyism.

I'm against the death penalty generally for precisely those reasons. But chopped-off nads are different. When you--publicly, and my governor is female--excise someone's favorite bits, you do threaten to give them something worse than death: indelible shame. That way, their depression will do the job of cleaning up the gene pool for you. I'm the libertarian type in the American context. In the American context, I prefer the local justice system deal with these guys on a case-by-case basis. But in the German or Russian context? I don't have a problem with a Pedo Cheka. So long as the Pedo Cheka has it as real clear policy that we still uphold presumption of innocence until proof of guilt and no extrajudicial "accidents" will be tolerated.

I think everyone is on the same page about this. I think it's just the idea of a non-RC coming into their forum with heavy criticism of something that happened in their confession can look like just bashing them.

On the topic of having the death penalty for pedophilia. I don't support that. I believe that all human life has worth including those who have commited grave sins.

Well ... it's not my place to make an official pronouncement. But if we put anyone to death, we deprive them of the opportunity to repent.

However, I believe protection of victims is paramount. In times long past it was more necessary to choose between the life of an offender and the protection of future victims.

But in this time, I think we apply that more to the crime of murder. I don't think our penal system at times does enough to protect future victims from crimes such as rape and pedophilia.
