The thing that bothers me about the - well, admittedly it's the tone of the article, and may be the bias of the writer and not reflect the full scenario ...

(ETA to be fair - I did not read the entire thing - I don't really want to know details.)

What bothers me is that the response seems to be one of complete secrecy - restoration without any accountability or dealing with the problem. (And I don't think such a person should be restored to a priestly ministry - I think such a failing should disqualify one from that particular position because trust is essential.)

Maybe it's not really like that? But it certainly seems a lack of transparency and accountability is an issue both with those supporting the organization and the work they do. And I don't think that leads to healthy restoration - which of course should always be the goal (while protecting anyone from further victimization, for the sake of victims and offender alike).

Certainly though prayer should be our response.

I was trying not to comment overmuch on the article and organization but on general principles. Mainly because of the reasons that have steered this thread more recently. I have an opinion on the topic in general, but don't care to involve myself in judging what's going on specifically with the Catholics. There are shameful aspects, certainly. But I am also concerned for the sake of faithful Catholics I know who may well be struggling with some distress over the whole thing, when it is no fault of theirs personally.
