  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Both Walmart and Lowes sell little metal baskets for the suet.

These links are so you can see pictures of the products. I never bought this stuff online.
I don't pretend to know what others can afford. My husband and I weren't extravagant or wealthy. I took his advise on whether or not we could afford things.

Thank you

Thank you for posting that for Unqualified!

Well, I don't feed the birds anymore; diabetes zaps my energy.

I have to tell you that I recently discovered that I must be related to hundreds of Texans! Two of my relatives were scalped when they went out to check on their cattle. One fought and survived the battle at San Jacinto. And because people had large families back then and their children married others, they multiplied like crazy! LOL.

I love feeding the birds. Do need more feed. I think the American Goldfinches have all finally headed back home. Sorry to see them go.

Well, I guess we're all related to someone!

My husband has been working on the genealogy of his family for years and has discovered many things he never knew about. I tried working on mine, but hit a roadblock and could never get any further.

My husband hit a roadblock on his dad's line; but he hit paydirt on his mom's. My Crawfords were in Jamestown, Virginia; I'm impressed. They go back to Robert the Bruce. I wish we had diaries.

I started studying our family tree back in 2006. Made a lot of amazing discoveries. Wonderful hobby.
I am currently writing a book about our famous and infamous ancestors.

I went to Walmart today. They had oodles of Johnny-jump-ups in pots, so I bought some. They also had more Boston ferns than I've ever seen at once. Ladies were buying those. One lady had six of them in and hanging on the outside of her cart! I have a feeling her friends or relatives asked her to pick up some of them.

It's too cold for Beautyberry here. I've only see photos. I'm sorry about your tomato plants. Did you have any hail?

My Brazillian Joyweed is the alternanthera I mentioned earlier. It doesn't look like a weed. I wonder why they call it that. I like the shiny dark purple leaves. Maybe it's invasive in Brazil.

I heard some small hail when I woke up during the night, but nothing to cause damage. The tomato plants are fine now, just need some sun to straighten them up. Haven't seen sun in a few days.

I looked up the alternanthera. Very pretty.

I planted moss rose in a couple big pots.

My husband hit a roadblock on his dad's line; but he hit paydirt on his mom's. My Crawfords were in Jamestown, Virginia; I'm impressed. They go back to Robert the Bruce. I wish we had diaries.

That's impressive!

My husband did research that enabled his sister to become a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. I told him he should apply to the Sons, but he hasn't.

I got my Johnny-jump-up seeds in the mail today. Hope to get out tomorrow afternoon and plant some, hopefully they'll come up. I'll save some for fall planting.

Put out 9 tomato plants yesterday. Had a good rain overnight. Picking some nice strawberries. The wife has some cucumbers and beans coming up. Potatoes are about 6 inches. I thought the sun chokes were goners at the end of next year, but they popped up better than ever this month.

Using ancestry.com helps a lot. There is a lot of information and documentation. A bit pricy, but you can subscribe, get the info you need, and then unsubscribe... and still have full access to your tree. Just no editing.

Yes, we've used it for years, my husband finds new information all the time. I know new info is added continuously. I should get back to it. ;) You do have to be cautious sometimes with other's information, people tend to take as gospel everything they find and add it to their own trees, really making a mess at times.

I have a small winter squash that has two giant blooms. The cool weather will probably set it back though. Also have some jalapeno plants I need to get into the ground. I think there's a black-eyed pea coming up where I had a couple last year. Also a couple tomato where some dropped off the plants last summer. Hope my tomatoes do better this year, the heat and lack of rain ruined them last year. We've been collecting rainwater in barrels over the winter so that should help some. Don't think I've ever had a sun choke?

I know about the time! My husband was more obsessed than I! We both had ancestors who fought in the Revolution, but neither of us joined the Sons or Daughters. Is there an advantage to membership?

Black-eyed peas are a yummy southern dish. I bought some very early in our marriage when I ran across a Hoppin' John recipe. We both loved the Hoppin' John! So it became a New Year's tradition. :)

What is a sun choke?

Are your seeds Outside Pride brand Johnny-Jump-Ups? The pkg. suggests planting them in the shade down south.

Moss rose? Are you talking about portulaca with very delicate flowers? I call those moss rose and I love them! "Moss Rose Seeds, Portulaca Double Mixed Colors."

Before the days of personal computers and internet, we went to the National Archives, the Library of Congress and trips to relatives around the country, as well as county courthouses, Quaker records and even a Catholic priest in a little country church. After internet, he spent hours and hours on Ancestry.com.
