Is it possible?
There is no way I can be baptised by someone.
I know that sounds pretty odd, but you'll just have to take my word for it.
So I need to be baptised because

Mar 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned

Now I know my faith icon is 'Seeker', but I do believe. I really do. I have spent a long time in the Bible and prayer and have come to believe. But Mar 16:16 is pretty clear with the use of 'and'. So no matter how much belief I have, I need that baptism.

So I could just go ahead and try it myself somewhere. But if *anyone* has any experience of it, or any instructions for it, I'd be grateful.

I have to do something. My soul is at stake here.

Many people will say that baptism is not essential for salvation. I'm not an expert.
But you might like to consider Luke 7, specifically
Luke 7:50 And he (Jesus) said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
No mention of baptism there.
I've never been baptised. Who can you trust to perform a valid baptism these days?
Personally I would not worry too much about baptism. You sound as though you believe, that you have quite a strong faith. That is the most important thing.
Perhaps you should PM an administrator and get your faith icon changed :)

Welcome to CF. Glad you are here.

Ok first, baptism is a symbol. Baptism does not save you. It is a symbol from God as a physical imagery reflecting God healing your soul by taking away your sin. Second, baptism was first practiced by individuals, not by a person dipping you down under the water, but as a person walking down into living water and coming back out again or placing water onto certain areas of the body. Thirdly, baptism was a public thing. It was a point of conformity with a public group. Your baptism when you do it will be with done by that church which you submit to. There is a submission, not to earn anything...but to public let your faith be evident to others.

Know for certain because of God working in your heart pointing you to Jesus your baptism is first of the heart then that baptism becomes evident of your conformity into Christ to the glory and praise of God.

Christians differ in their understanding of what baptism is, but I don't think their is any precedent in any tradition for doing it yourself.

It should be done by someone else, and it should be done publically. It should be done within the congregation that you are joining or expect to join.

Christianity isn't an individual faith - it's a community faith. Doing 'it' on your own simply isn't part of the faith Jesus founded. Sometimes, on rare occasions, the community might temporarly be as little as two people but even that is the exception to the norm.

Now, if your problem is with someone else tipping water over you or pushing you under, that could be worked around by any minister worth his salt.

Hi, this is an interesting dilemma. My church only does communion twice a year. Kind of strange but that's how they do it. So sometimes I do it at home.

Of courses neither communion nor baptism saves us, but since you are determined to be baptised, I would do it yourself since that's all you can do (according to what you wrote), and there doesn't need be witnesses though you can have some, and it doesn't have to be in a church, you can do it in your bathtub.

Now, I would just talk to God as you are doing it, and just say I am doing this in honor of you, and go under the water, and if you feel the need to say, you can say, I am baptised in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

hon, you are in no danger at all. There is no requirement to be baptised to be saved.

When I was baptised, it was in a swimming pool. The dear pastor who knew me for a year, told me during the session discussion baptism, he told me privately I did not need to speak publicly. I didn't. Not my personality, wouldn't have been able to do it.

Let no man lay on you laws that are not in force, nor mentioned in the bible.

Only Christ saves..nothing else.

We are no longer under the law.

Also just to add there are many home bound that come to faith and don't go to church, don't recieve communion and aren't baptised. Salvation is only thru Jesus.

Ah, one more thought. If it made you feel better you could call a pastor if you have one, and tell him that you can't say why but you won't allow someone to baptise you, and ask him for recomendations on how you can do it.

peace and blessings.
