  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Oh great now my Wa. insurance is bound to pass the costs down to me. That is bold of you to say
the protesters have no land of there own.
I’m sure more of them are renters than owners. But what a shame it is that the process of getting cops held accountable has to raise your insurance rates :nooo:

For the urban poor and urban small businesses, insurance rates are already more than many can afford.

Have a bit more compassion for the poor, please.

Take it up with the insurance companies, they’re the ones passing costs on to the poor.

Are you not familiar with the concept of insurance? The whole idea is that the costs are divided among everybody.

Who is this "white America"?

I still think there's no moral justification for burning down businesses and looting.

A (few) are just trying to stir the pot with all of their "white America" talk. In the fifties and sixties we were taught in school that America was "a melting pot" of All Colors" and that's exactly what we see and expect to see in our Cities.

Ones burning down this Country should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. We are going to see that now as some of the rioters have been caught and will be brought to Justice.

Prosecutors say she tried to firebomb an NYPD van. Her friends say she's a 'regular girl'

I'd say that a 12 year lockup should do her right.

Insurance isn't a charity. Perhaps cities cost insurance companies more. When businesses burn down every decade or so due to a riot, it's not hard to figure out why.

Then it’s in their interest to push for equitable socioeconomic conditions in cities so the city folk don’t feel the need to riot.

There’d be no private insurance if they weren’t making massive profits. I’m all for sharing wealth and expenses, comrade.

Exactly.

Non-profit insurance companies exist. They also divide the costs among their customer base. What else can they do?

And when costs go up, premiums go up.

We've already seen that black-owned businesses still get torched.

But you're saying that people who pay money to BLM won't get torched? There's a word for that, and it's an ugly word.

No. The idea is that the sooner BLM gets what it’s asking for, the sooner the riots will stop and no one has to pay out any more insurance. It’s almost like we’re all in this together.

Yes! Because the total abolition of the police will eliminate all theft and arson!

... give me a break.

Besides, "...we’ve proved it again and again,
That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld
You never get rid of the Dane."

Show me all the theft and arson going on in Chaz, where there are no police.
In any case, I wouldn’t blame someone for thinking literal abolition of law enforcement is on BLM’s agenda since that’s in all the headlines, but it’s not meant to be taken literally. It’s more like comprehensive reform of the police’s set of responsibilities and the city’s response to emergency calls. More trained professionals, fewer armed, combat-minded enforcers. Of course we’ll still need some to respond to violent crime, but not for every single 911 call that comes in.

What percentage of those shootings are justifiable? What percentage involved unarmed suspects? Just saying there's racial disparities in police shootings doesn't automatically mean that police are racists.
I don't believe all police are racists. But there are more graphs showing blacks were more likely to be jailed for marijuana arrests and for minor probation issues than whites are.

made-up claims about Biden

Biden's memory issues seem to be well proven, although he may not remember.

He's also known as one who likes to sniff heads and hair. Kind of a weird thing to do.

If the government just instituted a UBI until the end of the pandemic, the rioters would magically disappear. Problem solved, and it doesn't involve taking the rioters overblown demands ,like "defunding police", seriously.
