• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Of course - slow, gradual change over billions of years is totally impossible, but hyperfast evolution in a period of some thousand years is A-OK.
I know --- I know --- it'll be a dry walk through the Red Sea before you'll believe in miracles --- won't it?

Wasnt this thread originally about how RNA was intelligently designed?

ranmaonehalf was politely suggesting we get back on topic.

This response, trying to turn it around on the person making the request
instead of seeing the need to cooperate serves well to underline the point that we need to try to stay on topic. And why it seems so hard.

It is true that conversations tend to drift, but its a matter of some self discipline to try to stay on topic.

For whatever reason, some people like to try to make the thread about themselves. Or make wild leaps off into irrelevancies and deliberately derail the conversation.

Ye who do it, please stop.

It's like conversations in real life: they don't stay on topic unless strictly moderated.

Somehow I doubt a real-life conversation would go from the topic of self-replicating RNA to the average windspeed of a coconut-laden swallow... even without strict moderation. ;)^_^^_^

Please solve this paradox for me, I (currently) have 395 posts & 18 blogs in which not even (1%) one percent of any of them have ever been disproved.... why?
Because they have no content to be disproven?

Ok, that was mean. After all, I did spend three hours writing up a response to one of yours... not gonna do that again, ever. I promise to myself.

(Geneticist? Good grief!)

An adult north american chipmunk can hold up to 12 standard-sized nuts in its cheeks at once.

Unless they're walnuts.

Walnuts rule.

Guess it is about that time.

This thread is now officially about Chipmunks.
Yess yess, another thread about squirrilz!

Sorry, chipmunks.

Probably about the same amount of time it would take to breed swallows capable of carrying coconuts.

The question is, what is the average windspeed of a coconut-laden swallow?
I don't know, but here's an estimate for the unladen swallow ;)

To the OP: a bit late, but BRING THE CHAMPAGNE!!!:hug::clap:*

(Hmm, I can't access recent Science papers off-campus, but I take it from the abstract that the synthesis of the new copies is still not from single nucleotides... home work for 2009, I guess)

*and not (just) because that's another nail in the coffin. I've been waiting for this ever since I heard about the RNA world and how self-replicating ribozymes were still lacking. RNA absolutely rules.

(Apologies for the big red font. This is like... just... one of those Great Moments. *sentimental*)
