howdy yall. ive been a member of CF for a bit but just now discovered this wonderful little corner of the site. i came to Christianity from Hinduism and have a very mystical, universal kind of theology. i am also a fan of Rob Bell, and attend a most wonderful church here in Houston that has completely opened my eyes to the truth behind Christ's message of love. Just trying to become more like Him, and am very glad this corner of the site exists! i have realized i do not need the Law to be moral, the more i learn to love our Lord , the more my morals just kind of fall into place. yall will be seeing much more of me, i look forward to learning and sharing His love and light with yall.

namaste!

Hey, everyone.

I've lurked on CF before, but about a week ago I've discovered the WWMC subforums, and it feels like I'm waking up from a nightmare. I had no idea that liberal Christians exist! It's pretty cool that there's a place here where people can discuss Christianity with an open mind and not be so judgemental and quick to criticise! I just hope that this place lasts (places like this don't tend to....)

Yes, Octorock. We EXIST. Loudly and proudly. We have to be loud because others are loud, or at least that's how I see it! :D

I'm new as well, but certainly not new to being liberal... I've been liberal for all of my life, pretty much. ;) I've gotten more liberal in recent years, though... Silly conservatives! :D

I pretty much tried being conservative, but I couldn't believe what they believe. Especially about LGBTQ folk - I couldn't force myself to believe that there was something wrong with their love, and I tried - believe me! ;)

Conservative theology had a lot to do with my leaving Christianity, but I found a wonderful liberal UCC church and now I'm back... I've found it to be much more accepting and loving, and I love my church! I actually enjoy being in church now! I don't have all the answers, but I know that I love Jesus - he was a hippie and a liberal, just like me. He loves and affirms all, just like me. :D

Love!

Hi everybody. just joined this morning. I had some trepidation about joining here at first but then decided I needed the connection/fellowship more than I was scared.

About me...well, like many of you I started out more conservative, then got spiritually wrung out by several confusing and painful life issues, which I don't care to elaborate on now. (I became a Christian about 30 years ago, about age 10.) Suffice for now that while they didn't quite destroy my faith, they did considerably alter it, so here I am. I'm not really much of a churchgoer at present. Like many of you I have severe trust issues with churches. I do attend a Unitarian Universalist congregation in my area occasionally, but my wife is more active because of the women's group there. The trust issues are mostly my own and not necessarily the fault of specific churches, and certainly not this particular church.

I still self-identify as a Christian, but it's more of a Borg/Crossan/Spong liberal type.

I've been married for 11 years; my wife and I celebrated our anniversary last weekend. I don't have children of my own but I do have a beautiful and kind stepdaughter, herself married for several years and who has a one-year old. My wife and I also have a very beautiful, attentive and humorous male cat.

As for hobbies, mostly I like reading and writing. I particularly like fantasy/SF and I chose my user name, Merlin Athrawes, after a primary character in David Weber's "Safehold" series which I am now reading.

I'm an avid motorsports fan and particularly follow Indycar, F1, the various USAC dirt racing divisions, and motorcycle racing. I once liked NASCAR and still follow it enough to like some drivers (particularly Mark Martin and Tony Stewart) and follow the various soap opera plots; but nowadays my wife is much more enthusiastic about it. I simply don't like a lot of the things they're doing now, particularly the interesting race officiating and the right-wing sensibilities of their core fan base.

I like good music of almost all types, but am more partial to 80s pop and rock, jazz, and folk. I like some CCM so I'm not entirely evil lol. Seriously, back in the day Susan Ashton was my favorite singer and actually in some ways still is. I also liked (and actually still like) Russ Taff, Michael Card, and Margaret Becker, even though per my current beliefs I process them differently today than back then.

Well good to meet you all and I hope I started on the right foot.

I see a lot of new folks have wandered in that I haven't welcomed yet... so welcome!

I'm not all that liberal myself, more of a moderately conservative "emerging church" Pentecostal who votes Libertarian, but I've been here forever. ^_^

Hi..I'm new here. Never posted here before. I actually found this place by accident. My board home has been Worldcrossing and they are closing down in April, so I'm kind of looking for new places to post.

I have been a seeker all of my life and currently consider myself somewhat of a Progressive Christian (although, I do attend a rather conservative Christian Church - Christian Reformed).

This board appears to be very active. I'm still finding my way around. :)

Hi  I'm Emma.
I've been sort of going it alone in Christianity ever since I first believed, and I've been struggling with the liberal/conservative thing for some time.

I unfortunately got into the habit of reading highly conservative books (they sell Chick books, for instance) and websites and they seem to have infected my head. I've found myself really struggling with the whole women/GBLT issues and flitting back and forth between trying to fit in with a conservative viewpoint and thinking I must reject Christ if I am to remain true to my principles. I don't know why I have been thinking like this, because I learned at college about a more liberal theology (I also studied feminist and Queer theology) but due to going mad I have forgotten much of what I learned.

Anyway I would like some help to sort out my thinking really. About biblical interpretation and how the Bible should/is/? applied to our lives, etc. Um, I'm not really sure what to do, and whether I should lurk or make a topic. Everyone seems so knowledgeable.

This is a bit long...but I just wanted to vent a wee bit really!
