  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have one great wish. I wanna be saved. But I have questions.

1. Must i keep Gods 10 commandments in order to be saved? Includind His sabbath.

2. Must i keep Gods Holy Days in order to be saved?

3. Must i keep the testimony of Jesus in order to be saved?

4. Can i attain eternal life and not be saved?

I would love to hear from as many as see this post. What do you think about all 4 questions. Or any that you might have knowlegde of. We are all here for one reason. We seek the Lord. HE says you will not seek ME in vain. That is one thing we all must believe. HE said it, i believe it! No matter our differences.

1. Must i keep Gods 10 commandments in order to be saved? Includind His sabbath.

The Law is designed to bring men to the relisation that they are already in breach of it...already hoplessly condemed to death by it.....because they have already transgressed some part of it and are therfore Guilty of all.

This forces a man to turn to Jesus who is now their only hope.....you will still stuff up in life.....you will still make mistakes...still transgress the Law.

However, your trust is in Christ and not yourself....that makes you righteouse in the sight of God....

2. Must i keep Gods Holy Days in order to be saved?
No
3. Must i keep the testimony of Jesus in order to be saved?

If you believe Jesus is the Son of God raised from the dead....then you will be raised from the dead.

4. Can i attain eternal life and not be saved?
Not possible, the Sin of the the human race was attoned for on the Cross.

You will notice all Churches have a big Cross front and centre, I do not know of any that actualy explain to the congrgation what actualy happened at the Cross though........and just how big that happening was....

I agree with this post. Repentance is necessary - turning to the Lord in faith. Being 'saved' carries more than one meaning. It means being forgiven, being healed, and being part of the kingdom of God, which for each of us begins as soon as we turn to the Lord.

1. Must i keep Gods 10 commandments in order to be saved? Including His sabbath.

No.

2. Must i keep Gods Holy Days in order to be saved?

No.

3. Must i keep the testimony of Jesus in order to be saved?

What would you say the testimony of Jesus is?

Rev 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

4. Can i attain eternal life and not be saved?

Never!!!

Salvation is by grace through faith and not by works. Faith with no works is dead. The devil believes that Jesus is the Christ but he will not be saved. Using the i am saved by Grace excuse to not so works will never work. Salvation leads to works. Works are evidence of Salvation.

Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

These people saying Lord, Lord believed which is the faith part but they are not saved because they work iniquity which is lawlessness. Without faith it is impossible to please. Can we please God without works? Can we be saved if we do not please God? Works do not lead to salvation but doesn't salvation lead to works?

4. Can i attain eternal life and not be saved?

Well, according to traditional Christiainty those that are not saved go to hell, where they will be tortured day and night for eternity. There will be wailing and knashing of teeth as the pain of the flame burns them.

To be tortured and feel pain one must be aware, and to be aware one must be alive.

So, it seems one can have eternal life without being saved.

However, I do not believe what traditional Christianity teaches... I believe what the Bible teaches.

Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord"

So, no you can not attain eternal life without being saved.

Attaining eternal life is salvation. There is a difference between the salvation of etrnal life and mere immortality.

I am amazed at how often this question comes up as the Scriptures clearly and plainly state how to be saved.

God did not make it hard nor did he make the way foggy and difficult to understand.

This is what the Bible says to do in order to be saved.

Ro 10:9-11

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
KJV

Many argue with the scripture but it says what it says and it is plain.

If you have said to God the above, believing it in your heart you are saved and you will always remember when you did it.

If you have not said to God the above believing it in your heart then you are not saved and should humble yourself before God and do it NOW.

Believing in your heart means with all your being.

NOTE: This same answer was given in another post.

Is it OK to talk about question 4 first. Can we attain eternal life and not be saved? Do you think that God would create a people (the american indians pre pilgrims) and put them in a situation where they could never have heard of Jesus and then send them to hell for not believing in Jesus of whom they never heard.

As a Catholic, when someone asks me if I have been "saved," I answer: "I am redeemed by the blood of Christ, I trust in him alone for my salvation, and, as the Bible teaches, I am working out my salvation in fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12), knowing that it is God's gift of grace that is working in me."

 hi there! well that's great that you want to be saved! :) I'll try to answer your questions...

I have one great wish. I wanna be saved. But I have questions.

1. Must i keep Gods 10 commandments in order to be saved? Includind His sabbath.

To be saved you must put your faith in Christ and repent, but this is only the beginning of it all...faith means nothing without following Christ and keeping His commands. Most of all; loving God and others. Also you should get baptized as it says in the Bible.. Being saved is something that happens in your heart though, and it's not so much about externals. See what the Bible says about it.... it's important to believe and trust in Christ..we're saved by grace, not by anything we do. It's all because of what Christ did. At the same time if your faith is real you would want to follow Him and obey the 10 Commandments. Works and faith go together; and faith leads to good works and obedience. Sure you might make mistakes once in a while, but then just confess your sins and let God change you. :) this is a really big discussion topic..hope my little summary helps LOL.

I suggest that you think about the purpose of the 10 Commandments...they are not just rules but ways we live according to the truth and 'in the light'.

If you want to understand Christianity and salvation better I recommend the book "Mere Christianity" by CS Lewis; it has helped me :)

2. Must i keep Gods Holy Days in order to be saved?

I don't think so, no.

3. Must i keep the testimony of Jesus in order to be saved?

What do you mean by "testimony of Jesus"?

4. Can i attain eternal life and not be saved?

Eternal life is living in God's presence, and the alternative is hell. Being 'saved' is just how we get there. You can't get to the destination if you don't follow the path that's provided :)

God bless

Hi Wailing Wall,

1/ You do not need to keep the commandments to be saved, there is nothing we can do either before or after we are born again that merited our being born again. That said we are expected to "love the LORD our God with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind and all our strength, and to love our neighbour as ourselves," this ultimatly is the fruit of someone who is born again.

2/ IMHO yes you must, everyday should be holy unto the LORD, and we know the writer to the hebrews says that we should "persue peace with everyone and the holiness without which no one will see the LORD," again I will stress that this does not cause us to be saved, but is a fruit of being saved.

3/ Like Monica I am unsure by what you mean of testimony?

4/ No you can`t, you have heard the good news and have to make a choice, you know there is sin in your life and the need for that to be dealt with, choose for yourself; death from the wages of sin or repentance and the free gift of God.....eternal life.

Mark :)

To be saved ? no .

No .

3. Must i keep the testimony of Jesus in order to be saved?

That would depend on what you mean by that .

4. Can i attain eternal life and not be saved?

They are one and the same ( depending one one's nuances ) .

What do you mean by 'saved'?

I think that has the cart before the horse. The Law is meant to point us to the Gospel. Then when we realize the Gospel and accept that our sins are forgiven, we can work on keeping God's law to the best of our ability and let our light shine.

We will fall but Christ is there to pick us back up.

2. Must i keep Gods Holy Days in order to be saved?
What if you esteemeth every day alike?

[bible]Romans 14:5-6[/bible]

3. Must i keep the testimony of Jesus in order to be saved?
I think that we would want to, sure. But we are saved because of what Christ has done for us not because of something we keep or do.

4. Can i attain eternal life and not be saved
I believe they are the same thing in many ways.

I would say that sanctification is a process but being saved and recognizing that God has granted you life eternal are the same thing.

 I just want to clarify something about the first question:

1. Must i keep Gods 10 commandments in order to be saved? Includind His sabbath.

How I think it happens is...let's say there's a person who's the worst sinner ever, and broke each of these commandments many times. He can still be saved, if he only turns to God and lets Him forgive the sins. But after that, once he's a Christian, he should try to obey the Commandments out of love for God, and he will be given the power to do so by the Holy Spirit. He will still keep his free will and will sin sometimes, because
his mind and body are not transformed, only his spirit. (They will be, in the Resurrection, but not now). Then, he should just repent and ask for forgiveness, and God will forgive and will help him get over that particular sin. :) so you see, you don't need to keep the Commandments to become one of God's children, but once you are one, you should make an effort. You'll find that the more you pray and worship and seek God, the easier it would be to do so, and the more you would want to live a holy life simply out of love, not fear.
