I didn't even know guys liked guys and that stuff as a kid. XD I thought everyone grew up and just got married had kids and died. But unto the topic.

Arguments from silence are not very useful.

I guess this is an exception seeing as the bible does condemn it as well as not mention that it is lawful!

Those studies might account for some people, but they definitely are not an accurate representation of all gays and lesbians. None of those apply to me, and I'm gay.

My point being that we need to deal with what the Bible does say, and not what it does not say.

The Bible's condemnations of homosexual behavior are not as clear and explicit as some make them out to be. I don't think anyone doubts that the Bible condemns homosexual temple prostitution, pederasty, and homosexual rape. But to say that it condemns all expressions of same-sex love, or that it condemns gay marriage is to argue from silence.

Written with a pre-modern and pre-scientific understanding of sexual behavior, the Bible does not know about homosexuality as an innate orientation. It does not know about sexuality as a core constituent of human personality. It has no concept of gay marriage. In other words, it is mute on these subjects.

The Bible should not be used to condemn committed, exclusive, chaste same-sex relationships. On the other hand, it probably can't be used to defend gay marriage either.

That's right. I am suggesting that we need to look to another source of authority on these matters.

With all due respect, you are mistaken. There is no definition of marriage in the Bible as "one man/one woman." This is assumed as a norm, as it is today, but it is neither a definition nor a command.

Actually, it is the norm of marriage described, not defined, and certainly not commanded, by the author of Genesis.

Let's be even more specific about it. I think that the Text Critics would say that the source for this verse was J.
