As a Theistic Satanist, I feel that I should respond to this thread.
I have always failed to see why it is that modern Satanists choose to only represent the adversary to Christ, when there are many other religions with a similar God, and prophets. Satan was a name most likely originally used for the shock value, to shoot the popularity of the 'church of satan' to great heights because of the controversy of its name. Why is it that you feel you need to stand under the name of Satanist? You can believe exactly the same without the controversial name.
If I refered to satanism as say, Carnalism would you believe it?(refering to anyone whos christian)

Why not? Its seems more rational doesnt it?

Hi Carnal Religion,

Hello im new here but I joined because I wanted to discuss my thoughts with other People. I am Athiest yet im Satanic. If you dont understand this let me explain.

Us satanists believe in Satan as a symbol of independence, free thought, self preservation and being the best you can. I say im Athiest because I dont believe in a god since I dont believe in the trinity nor do I believe Satan is an existing form of flesh or entity. We do not sacrafice animals, we believe they are creations that should be preserved.

This is very true. I am not a Satanist, but I do believe there is indeed a lot of misunderstanding about this religion, just as there is a lot of misunderstanding about Christianity.

We dont believe in Heaven or Hell. We believe once you die you are dead. There is no way to stop death, because death has won. This will probably strike alot of controversy but its our belief.

Our belief system is such that the body dies, but the spirit has to go somewhere else when we do. Christians believe in an afterliufe. If you publuic;ly accept Jresus as your saviour, when you die you will be risen up again when he returns to bring worldwide peace.

By believing death has won we are motivated to live our lives to the fullest. Anton Szandor LaVey explains in the Satanic bible alot of good points. If you are interested in what we think you should pick up a copy, its not that expensive.

I've seen a copy in one of my bookshops, but haven't bought it.

Now about evil .

"Nothing resists. Nothing can resist the force that drags man into conflict"

Why nature is evil, not neutral

Nature is moving. Unlike animals, we have reasoning. We are the only species that does not kill out of instinct alone. But look at the things that Jesus did: he calmed a storm that was threatening to capsize his followers boat. Moses had called on his God to part the Red Sea to lead his people out of captivity.

Goodness is based upon and reliant upon darkness

Life is based on death

I have difficulty trying to understand this concept: can you explain how this is so for humans? When a tree dies, its leaves fall and the seeds can in turn grow more trees.

In nature, death is unavoidable and the inevitable victor

Nature is violent and uncaring, the universe is cold and destructive

It can be destructive as well as constructive. Stars are created, planets orbit their sun in a regular fashion. Yet asteroids and comets can bring forth disaster.

Altruism is long term selfishness

We often give to gain something back. Even I have been altruistic in the hope that I would get something from the others in return.

There are a bunch of types of Satanism, I am the one which believes in life. Not the person who wears black make up and skins goats.

As Christians, we are called to love one another, even though we may not essentially agree with them. This includes reaching out to people who may not be of our religious faith.

We are taught to respect each other, and to keep God's commandments if we wish for a prosperous life: this means not killing, stealing, unjustly accusing others, respecting our parents, and not desiring or coveting who and what is not ours.

It is hard to go through life without doing these things to some degree or another, but we believe Jesus promises us eternal life if we are obedient.

Ahem...as a Wiccan I would like to point out that yes Satanists do use the pentagram as their symbol as we do, the meanings we associate with them are different.

To continue...I don't know much about Satanism, I'll admit. I've had very little contact with any Satanist, but I believe that they should worship however they please. What strikes me from your posts and seeing your age, are you perhaps using the title of being a Satanist as more of a rebellion against mainstream thought instead of an actual religious choice?

I'm not trying to belittle you or your religious choices, I am seriously curious.

From my understanding, Atheist Satanism is largely a rebellious movement. There are those Atheists that simply do not believe in God and see no point in discussing something that does not exist (those who have moved on, and sometimes wonder when the rest of the world will). There are those who do not believe in God, but do enjoy discussing the topic for various reasons.. and also those who are opposed to Judeo-Christian religion, and those who are opposed to any belief in God.

And then there are those who do not believe in God, and take a stance of rebellion against The Establishment, particularly the religious institions. These Satanist call themselves Satanists because they oppose Christianity. Wearing the label is a sign of rebellion (a sort of thumbed nose and other digits waved) at the Christian Church(es).

Some, not all, have some form of anger built up against Religion, or something that they associate religion. I'm making some broad generalisations here, but what I'm saying is.. what we have here is the rebellion form of Satanism. You say "I've had very little contact with any Satanist, but I believe that they should worship however they please.", but keep in mind the worship present in this form of Satanism is worship of the self. I am my own God sort of thing.

It's mainly/usually, a combination of things from Nietzsche and Aleister Crowley. Usually more Nietzsche than Crowley.. and the whole thing is often fed through writings of Anton Levay, with a spoon-full of sugar, because he was much more witty than the other two.

There are all different kinds of Atheists (I want to make it clear that I'm know this and I'm not generalising).

Note : When I say 'God' in this thread, regarding the (lack of) beliefs of others, I really mean [G|g]od(s).

I was actually going to ask the same questions Myah! You beat me to it. In some other thread I read a Satanist say that Satan is actually a variation of Seth, an ancient Egyptian God. He also said that he was not following Satanism as a reaction to or rebellion against Christianity but just as an ancient religion that existed in Egypt before Christianity came and painted an evil picture to it. So according to his definition he is following a theistic Satanism. It is very interesting.

When I said ive been a satanist for a month. I didnt mean I didnt read up on it just as much, I just got to the point of having enough knowledge to decide if it sounds rational.
studying something for a month or two makes you an expert?

Also, on another thread you belittle and criticize others for taking 'a Book's' word for it??? HMMMM.

How? Because you read a book? Thats ignorant . I dont understand how people can be so gullible and live these days.

Another reason people dont consider satanism is because of everyone else, it takes alot of guts to stand out and say you are athiest and a satanist, to wear a baphomet around your neck.
I took this to mean, since you are so very committed to this belief after much study and a whole month of practicing, that you wore a Baphomet with pride. My apologies.

You dont understand anything im saying.

I have studied satanism/other religions in my spare time since for years.

I dont know If I have stated I was a satanist. I meant to say I was leaning towards satanism more than christianity.

As for the book thing. Lavey does not tell you a bunch of unrational statements as the bible does. He merely tells you stuff that can be believed because it makes sense.

I have seen in some Christian website that even Shiva was an ancient version of the devil or Satan(horned one). I am a worshipper of Shiva but I am not a Satanist or a rebel against Christianity. I am just continuing to worship my ancient God. But in the case of the West, most of the ancient Gods exist only in myths etc. which is the reason why some Satanists are acting against Christianity. As you read more about Satanism or any ancient religion, you will slowly get rid of the Christian baggage and start to find the Gods of your ancestors. Then you will not even call yourself a Satanist as in the Christian sense. Please correct me if I have said anything wrong and also forgive me in advance if I have hurt you in anyway. Thanks.

Without being taken the wrong way! The devils biggest trick is get someone o believe that he doesnt exist. the religion you worship is named after satan "satanism" so in a manner of speaking of you dont believe in him why even bother with a religion that bases the name off him? why partake in something thats so evil? whynot give Jesus a chance to give you the free gift of salvation "for whosever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" its that easy! the only way to find out is to try! why make assumptions about something you know nothing about? what do you have to lose? wanna see a change? accept him by confessing your a sinner and that you ask for his mercy and salvation...thats all you have to say just mean it sincerely and you will see a change my friend trust me i know...i was a really bad seed at one point!

I would like to point out that this thread is not for converting satanists. Personally, I think that you are too young to talk about Satanism of any kind, and not experienced enough. Give it a year or more and maybe. Study Crowley, study Nietzsche, learn. What you are now is not what you are going to be in a years time; you will have evolved, and you may find you are not even a modern satanist. Religion is not just about following the rules, its about being yourself, and i don't think that you have found yourself in modern satanism yet.

Thread or not, the Lords work and the truth shall not be stopped by any means..I pray for ya though! "
" No one can excuse his unbelief by saying that he did not know. God shows something of the truth about himself to every person. Everyone really knows there must be a God, the eternal creator, to whom they are responsible. EVEN ATHEISTS CALL UPON GOD, OR CURSE HIM IN TIMES OF TROUBLE.

Maybe everyone should do research on what Gods were worshipped by their ancient ancestors before the arrival or Christianity. They will find out to their surprise that after all they are not evil as they are portrayed to be.

Ofcourse they wont look so bad. "the devil can pose as an angel of light" "a wolf in sheeps clothing" portraying these idol gods and beautiful as he can to lead astray anyone from Jesus Christ..satan will candy coat whatever he can to get someone to get a taste. But The bible is the only book out of all the worlds religions to prophecy about future events and has been true to this day! no other religion will simply for the fact of losing there reputation and being discredited. Jesus firmly states he will destroy idols of wood and brass...Godbless my friend
