Let's see... I'm fairly certain some members of the mid-90s incantation of Bell, Book, and Candle were Satanists. Also, Voltaire, La'rue Delashay, Lustmord, Anders Manga, Theatre of the Macabre..

I know that one of the people in the old version of BBaC was an occultist writer. Don't necessarily know if he was a Satanist though.

Lustmord is pretty freaking sweet. They do really strange kind of sounds. On 6-6-06 they played their first live concert in 20 years at the Church of Satan's first ever public mass (i think it was some anniversary for them or something)

Anders Manga is pretty good, but they're like a lot of EBM/darkwave/futurepop kind of bands. Heard them on myspace and on the radio recently.

"Marilyn Manson is Satanic."

This is of couse, debatable. His whole being a minister in the church of Satan thing came later, and he himself has said it was just for attention. The church of Satan also does not recognize Marilyn Manson as a serious satanist.

I hate to quote an old post, but...

Not only that, but Manson himself indentifies himself as an atheist.

No, they chose the name "satan" because their beliefs coincide with what the Christian of the time would consider as Satanic. I read the Satanic bible, and from what I interpreted is that they chose it because the religion was about the ego and the self whereas Christianity was the opposite and considered stuff like ego and anything to do for personal gain as satanic. At least, that's what I gathered from reading CoS bible's point of view. That might not be entirely accurate about what the Christians believe, but that's close to how LaVey thought the Christians believed. They felt that their beliefs in "self" instead of whatever else was considered Satanic from a Christian perspective. When I say there's a "Satanic band" I don't mean a band that uses Satanic imagery like a hexagram or Baphomet, I mean bands whose members may have ties with the Church of Satan or consider themselves as Satanists. I go by beliefs, not imagery.

Brian Lustmord is most definitely not a Satanist. He "played" at the CoS thing mostly as a gag I think.

Ah, well thanks for pointing that out for me. It's kind of embarassing that I didn't know that. I just listed some of the CDs I saw for sale on the CoS website >_< Silly me.

But I have some Lustmord stuff, and it's pretty good nonetheless. (Don't really keep up with the info, that's I said "they" instead of "him" )

Oh, I don't blame you for not knowing. This kind of music is quite obscure.

Lustmord pretty much single-handedly invented the 'dark ambient' genre, so it's not surprising that he would be mistaken for a Satanist given how many other dark ambient artists are either Satanists, "old God"-type Pagans or were from Satanic looking death metal bands. However, from interviews and such it seems that he's a plain old materialist/atheist.

Too bad. He'd be so much more chic as a Satanist. ;)

*shrug* well it's not my fault people don't be too descriptive when they upload stuff on my tracker. Oh well.

I remember reading about some "satanists" that make "normal" music. Just because you're a satanist and make music, doesn't mean your music has to sound demonic or weird or something like that.

I listen to some bands that could be considered Satanic, like Deathspell Omega, (old) Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth (although they're actually Thelemic), and a few anti-Christian bands like Anata, but I only listen to them because I like the music. I really couldn't care less about the lyrics.

It's funny how all you people are comparing bands with image and lyrics. It's pretty funny how ridiculous all you sound saying, that, "music is godly or ungodly..." Yeah no... Music is music. I have friends that only listen to chirstian bands, all of them being metal. I mean, don't get me wrong I gave the bands a try. But what I've noticed is that the lyrics they sing are worthless to listen to. Even if the band is satanic or just doing it for the image. If you disregard the lyrics and just listen to the instruments then you'll get a whole new view on the music. I used to listen to the lyrics of christian metal bands (As I lay Dying, Haste the Day etc.) And I found that if you listen to the lyrics, you're wasting your time. If the lyrics are about the devil or god or w/e you think they're saying and you base the song off of just that? Then why are you listening to it??? IF you really want to criticize singers, I think people should look at the people who sing about god. Like that one song "god of wonder's beyond our galaxy" yeah... Almost everyone of those people singing those songs are corrupt as corrupt can be. Probably a quarter of those people are actually doing it out of the love of god, but most of them = for money. You can agree or disagree I don't care. But honestly. If you listen to any radio station, watch any tv show, or other things like that, I honestly see the brainwashing they try and get through to people. *note* speaking of all christian religions catholic christian baptist and so on. A lot of these bands that you see "satanic" are making these lyrics in to point of they believe that religion is the cause of all the problems in the world. Even in some christian metal bands that I have listened to have those type of messages.

I myself am Catholic. I have my personal beliefs and I let people know that. I don't base any decision of mine through religion. I base them off what I want to do, how I want to feel and how I want to live. Music is music.

You actually tried to rez a thread from as far back as February? lol

Well, I think we're pretty much on the same level here, because despite being Christian, I listen to bands such as Dimmu Borgir, etc, and I couldn't care less about the lyrics, I just listen to those bands because I like the way they sound.
