How is the Disciples study? Any more problems with the leaders? Did you ever talk with the powers that be at your church, or talk at all with them? In the meantime, how are you enjoying the study??

Beth Moore Study is going great....I have kept up with the reading (even though I had to miss the first few classes), and I have the video tape at home this week to catch up on. I have really found the computer to be a blessing......I have e-sword, and I open it up and I can flip to the verses so quickly!

Disciple study is going better, thanks Suzie!
I think I've just "settled" into their style.
I did speak with the Education Pastor and did talk with both facilitators. The day I spoke with them, they both made a concerted effort to allow the group members to talk. That lasted . . . .uhhhhh. . . .that session *giggle*

I sooooo enjoy the readings and digging deeper (the facilitator teases me about that being part of the "recovering baptist syndrome" - apparently digging deeper is a BAD thing?). Wish I had someone or some group to discuss them with - but I'm making the best of what I am getting from the course.

So glad you are enjoying the Beth Moore study! Her studies are also great on their own but if you can TALK about them and hear what others say - oooo- What an enriching experience!

I apologize for butting into y'all's conversation, but are you talking about the Disciple Bible studies - "Becoming Disciples Throuh Bible Study", "Into the Word, Into the World", etc, SandyLou? Just curious because my wife and I are in our 4th year of study in that series.

Again, sorry if I interrupted the conversation

No need to apologize! That's what the threads are FOR! ;)
Yes, you may find a thread here that I started entitled DISCIPLE STUDY - I just began Disciple 1 this fall and have been very frustrated by the format. Thru CF I've learned that it's only my facilitators that are frustrating me, not truly the format of the study. sooooo. . . .I've let go of the frustration and am taking whatever I can from the study and not expecting to be able to discuss in class.

In the DISCIPLE STUDY thread we were also discussing Jesus In The Gospels and Christian Believer - - have ya'll taken / led either of those also? I just need to get thru this year ;) so I can take Disciple 2 and I want to do the JITG study as well.

I'm sorry the facilitators are frustrating you. The study has been such a blessing to my wife and I both in the deep friendships we've made and in our walks with Christ. I'll look for that thread to see what frustrations you've faced.

We haven't done Jesus In The Gospels yet. Last year was the first time our church offered it, and they want you to take Disciple I - IV before doing Jesus in the Gospels. We are probably going to take a year off from this study format after we finish Disciple IV this year and focus on some different ministries. Our church offers Christian Believer, too, but we haven't taken it yet, although I've heard great things about it from those who have.

Really? Take all FOUR Disciple courses first?! WoW! My church, and a couple others who responded earlier, only require Disciple 1.

The readings in D-1 have been a true blessing to me. It's an awesome program. My church probably needs to perhaps look into facilitator training a bit more. . . .or perhaps follow-up training after the classes have begun? As a Sunday School (adults) teacher, I not only have a quarterly training but also the SS Advisory Committee sends in observers randomly to classes.

Yeah, I'm not sure how long they'll keep that requirement for Jesus in the Gospels. They didn't have enough people sign up this year to offer the class, so they might be more lenient in the future. As for the others, all they require is Disciple I first, then II-IV in any order. I might be wrong, but I don't believe that Disciple I is a prerequiste for Companions in Christ.

I found and skimmed through your original thread and have to agree with what most everyone said. I was scheduled to lead III this year (class didn't make :( ) and the facilitator's guide clearly states that there are no wrong answers. I'm glad to see you are undeterred, though, and looking forward to pressing on. I think you'll really like Disciple II and up because it much less reading and you can really sink your teeth into the Word a lot more. The videos are still hit and miss, though...

Thanks for the welcome, kitkat60!

Yup, taking the class together has been great. Many times we read together silently, but sometimes a topic catches mine or her attention and we'll discuss it for quite a while, looking at notes and different translations. We're lucky :)
