Sanctification is the deliverance from the power of sin. It is a present and continuous process of believers becoming Christ-like, accomplished by the Holy Spirit's power and presence.

God wants to transform and sanctify us by the renewing of our minds and by learning how to become more holy like His Son Yeshua.

I believe it is a process. This process involves learning how to develop right thinking in your thought process and working with the power of the Holy Spirit to develop you into the kind of person God wants you to become in Him. You should be seeking after this sanctification-transformation process into your life.

Just what is sanctification?

Is it a process that a believer goes through or it is a one time event?

IF sanctification is not a one time event, then it dictates that non-sanctification continues over and over and one must be RE-sanctified...continually, over and over again.

This places sanctification SOLELY in the hands of the individual.

Sanctification is a past tense ONE TIME event:

Hebrews 10:14
For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

We cannot 'make ourselves' more PERFECT than what the ONE TIME offering has already performed. The only thing that chages is our individual 'realizations' of such a thing...which technically 'never ends.' We are ALREADY PERFECT while in the process of realizing BEING PERFECTED...individually.

1 Corinthians 6:11
And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

Are does not change at the hands of the individual. We ARE all of the above BY THE SPIRIT of our God, and not of ourselves.

enjoy!

Hebrews 10:10 And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

He sees me as holy and blameless.
No .. he sees you as you are...

True dat!

We cannot say we have NO SIN and be IN TRUTH.

God loves us anyway, and will continue to be FULLY AGAINST ALL sin, however it is measured, under Law or under GRACE.

Sanctification is really one of the most important part of being a Christian.

In order to avoid symantics about past or future tense, I will refer it to sanctifing.

It begins immediatly after Justification, it embodies everything that Christ wanted us to live.
daily prayer
worship
taking care of the poor (and all your other good works)
taking part of the Sacrements

etc. etc.

Sanctifing is what keeps us bonded to Christ and our Faith Strong. IOW's ...living the Faith.... It is NOT a one time event it is our life long obediance and our journey to the Father thru Christ.

*why do I have this funny feeling this will turn into a OSAS debate^_^*

I disagree with you on this one. I believe that God meets us where we are in life when we come to him but loves too much to leaves us in that state- his spirit works with in us changing our hearts and minds the process of sanctification cannot come from within us by our strength but only by our willingness to allow the spirit to do His sanctifying work.

that verse from Hebrews doesn't ,as you have interpreted it, take into account men and women who at the point of conversion still struggle with their sin; such as drug addiction or pornography addiction or anything else that would be a hindrance from us to follow God.

sanctification is a present and ongoing process, we continue to be sanctified as we continue in Christ. we begin to see the things of this world as being not what we want compared to Christ and slowly as we are willing the things revealed to us as not belonging the life of a Christian will slough of.

Paul stated that he hadn't attained the sanctification that you mention that we all have obtained in Philippians 3, he stated that he presses on toward a goal of being more christlike; it isn't something so easily obtained.

It is a daily, life-long process. Once we accept the Passover lamb we are allowed free access into the Heavenly Sanctuary!

Paul is clear that the perfection achieved via sanctification is not done at conversion:
Philippians 3:12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
Another passage regarding the need for believers to have further sanctification is Hebrews 12:7-10. In that passage God is said to chastise those who are already His "sons" so that they may attain proper "holiness."

p.s. My take on Hebrews 10:14 from back when.

p.s.s. For those who understand typology. Remember the Israelites who were enslaved in Egypt (representing slavery to sin in the NT) and then their escape through the wilderness (representing our faith's journey toward the "Promised Land") unto the land of milk and honey (representing heaven). Escaping sin by following Christ is the beginning.
