  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"Your" as mine personal? We are talking about Jesus's truth of salvation. As for my standing before God, it's only for Him to judge.

Only Jesus is Lord!!!
Yes, I mean yours. If you aren't sure whether or not you're actually contrite and mournful, then you aren't.

My standing before my Heavenly Father isn't a subject matter in this discussion here. But He is the only judge.

Salvation by faith in Jesus.

Don't try to preach that this doesn't suggest following his word, that's Satanic.

You keep attacking me. For what? Telling you the truth of Jesus? He is Lord and Saviour.

There is no other way of salvation other than through faith in Jesus and faith only. People are incapable to save themselves by any amount of good works.

James says that faith without works is the faith of demons.

If you love God, you heed his word. Christ himself said this. If not, then your faith is without love. Certainly God can save someone of no works regardless, based on his heart, but such a heart is contrite, mournful, begging God for mercy, like the Publican; such a heart is not preaching that works are superfluous, this is Satanic work. Such a heart is deeply remorseful for their lack. God can save even a rapist and murderer if he is remorseful and crying to God and beating his breast and fasting and weeping...but you're pushing your luck if you start preaching rape and murder as no real concern so long as you have faith.

Dear brother, you're inventing things I never said or implied. What I did say, is just repeating what our dear Lord was saying. That salvation is through faith and faith alone. God Himself saves souls through Lord Jesus Christ. It's His work.

Why does it bother you so much?

6 than Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. (Matthew 16).

What, in your opinion, is the least you have to do to get saved?

Jesus spoke in terms of forsaking everything and dying and losing one's life

You speak of salvation in terms of "the least I can do"

Can you see how there may be a problem here?

Hey TheoryofForms, if you got a message in your inbox saying that I found one of your posts funny it's because I fat-fingered it on my phone. Meant to hit agree and changed it as such. Anyways, carry on.

The message there is not to love ourselves in some dr phil way. It is to treat people as we would treat ourselves since we are generally selfish by nature.
Where did I say to love yourself in some Dr. Phil way? It does mean exactly what you say, but we cannot love others fully unless we love ourselves.

What bothers me is that you are saying salvation is achieved simply through saying, "Lord, Lord," and that it doesn't matter how you treat the least of these.

No, that's not what he's saying.

Yes, that is what he's saying. He said works are only important for demonstrating your faith to men, but God doesn't think faith without works is dead.

It fits with a more Augustinian view of salvation, less focused on synergism, more focused on justification.

Dear brother, again you invent things I never said to you.

Empty words and true faith in heart isn't the same.

As you know, those who will say to Jesus, "Lord, Lord", will also claim doing many wonderful works, even many miracles, but still it won't be enough to Jesus. Why?

Jesus is looking for faith in Him. Not reliance on person's ability to produce works worthy of His acceptance... All our righteousness is as filthy rags...

How can you say you have faith in him if you do not love him? Christ says if you love him, you will heed his word.

"Ye see then how that by works a man is JUSTIFIED, and not by faith only."

This verse is why Luther pushed to have James removed from the Bible, because it didn't agree with his teachings, which are the traditions of men, not of God.

No, he questioned the canonicity of James because some of the early Church fathers did.

Protestants have dealt with that verse. Of course we do not believe a dead faith saves
