Technically man could achieve perfect righteousness in this life by virtue of his union with God and by His grace but the church says that, while in these bodies, it just doesn't happen. There will continue to be lighter sins that, while opposed to God's will, do not lead directly to death. We must be overcomers, but not necessarily perfectly so. Here's some teachings on the role that man's will plays as he struggles against sin as a believer:

Ok??And how many believers were in complete, perfect obedience of God in the New Testament, with no need for warnings or chastisements? ? How many churches were in complete obedience in Rev 3? Were they all necessarily non-Christian, hell-bound, unless perfection was attained?
