I am at a loss as to what is actually going on here. Aren't Intros simply a place to say hello and introduce yourself? This thread didn't just take a strange turn, rather it started there and quickly continued its descent. So odd.

Actually not that odd. There is a sizable minority of Intro posts that bring up some very serious issues. Sometimes the Mods move them to more appropriate folders, but not always.
