Oh Barb....wishing you moments alone!

Anyone else noticing this. I have a friend who is a grandma now, but was a SAHM back "in the day". She and hubby used to even swap whole weekends with other SAHM families. She asked if I ever child-watch swap for dates and getaways with other SAHMs. But we don't. It seems the pool of SAHMs is so small, that none of who do have the same age kids, or the same schedule, so it would work for sleepovers and playdates for us to have time to ourselves.

DH and I are waiting for our oldest to turn a bit older for some more serious dates. She was the right grade to take the Y babysitter course last summer, but we feel 10 is too young to be alone for very long, so we go for a walk, or go put up business signs, or attend events that are only 5 minutes away for an hour or so, with her in charge. But we still don't go out to the movies (across town), or to any place that we can't get home quickly.

And even when the kids are older, I don't know if I will be ready to leave them overnight until at least one of them is 18, and a responsible 18 at that.

-And babysitters for 3 kids, who can make a meal, drive them around town, do what parents do etc. That is way way pricey.

Wish there were more moms to swap with.
this is sooooo true!
Sometimes my 4yr old Stephen goes next door for a playdate with the 3yr old there. Then the 3yr old comes here another day.
I won't let Jake over there without me because of their coal stove....it's right in the middle of the living room with no gate around it. And Nick won't go there because of their dogs (he's afraid of them to the point where he actually shakes!).
She is the only SAHM i've found with a flexible schedule. and we haven't even been able to go to other places together yet. She also has an 8yr old into girlscouts and other things, so she drives her around town. I'm not quite there yet.
Also, and i know i am going on and on, I cannot take the 3yr old with me because my Explorer only has room for 3 car seats (and all three of my kids need one) and the 3yr old needs one. So it's difficult.

Well Yesterday my grandmother called at 8:45am and said "Get seth ready, and his over night bag, I want to steal him for the night" wow, ok.. So I did, and she gets him, gets him, and they go eat lunch at the school with my niece, then she takes him to walmart, buys him 2 cars, a new outfit, and some new socks. 7pm rolls around, and my cousins aren't over there, he starts crying, my grandmother asked him why he was crying and he said he wanted to go home to mommy, she calls me, tells me, I talk to him, and he starts talking about his dora game, I asked him if I brought it to him, if he would stay, he said he would, I drive 30 mins over there, and bring him all his games, and he said "I want to stay the night with you, mommy" so we get things together, and in the car I asked him "Why do you want to come home? we aren't doing anything fun." He says "I want to play dora on daddy's puter".

awwww Melly!! that's so cute! I know it is frustrating though!! The little ones cannot make up their minds! LOL! and even when they do, they change them in a wink! ;) :D

Yesterday and today were so darn busy!! Since DH was home both days, and the boys were on winter break from school, we got to do many things as a family unit!

Yesterday it was driving to Albany. First we went to the tool store, because i promised DH he could check it out...he wound up buying a few things. We had some time to kill b4 my follow up w/the oral surgeon, so we went to "A Different Drummer's Kitchen," a cool store with lots of kitchen stuff! I needed a new tea kettle, but didn't purchase one there because it was $60! It was one of those French brands, but whew! I'll wait thank you!
Then we found this pottery place where you can go in and choose a piece of pottery to paint. They fire it, and you pick it up in a week. Anyway, i had to run to my appt, so i sort of "threw DH in with the wolves" and all three boys!! He sat there with them for 45 min, while they painted their pieces. The boys were really good, but the staff was very slow. Anywho, DH survived! ^_^
Then we went to TGIF's for lunch. Then while on our way to the museum, we went by our old apartment, and showed the boys where we used to live, and the hospital that they were all born in. They loved that!
They also had a grand time at the museum. They have a children's discovery place there with lots to do! And they have a Mastadon skeleton there which was found locally! Jake was absolutely amazed! They were so tired out the poor things! but had a great day!

My previous post was getting long, so i started a new one with today's itinerary.

All we had planned was to take the boys to the bookstore. Well you know what they say about "the best laid plans!"
Anyway, while backing out of our driveway, the tires felt a bit weird....no flats....ok then what? So we decided to take the car in to get the tires checked and rotated and figured we needed an oil change anyway, so we'd get it all done. Well, that's really no place for 3 little boys full of energy, so DH dropped us off at the mall, which was right across from the car place. At the mall, the boys and I stopped at JCP's first to drop my watch off....it needed a new battery and a new crystal face, as it was scratched.
Outside of the JCP's, they have a little play area for little children...you have to be under 5 feet to play in there. thankfully, all of my boys are, so they played in there for a while. We then went to the dollar store for a toy, then to the pet store to see the puppies and such, then back to the play area. DH was there minutes later. whew! I'm exhausted already!
We had to stop by walmart for diapers, and a gift for an upcoming birthday, then it was off to Applebee's for a late lunch. are ya tired yet?? i am!
After that, we FINALLY made it to the bookstore!!!!
They played with the Thomas trains for about 20 min. and started getting persnippety, so we had to go. I think they were just tired out!

Tomorrow: The Teddy Bear Picnic!

I remember those days with my sons, Mare. Have to keep them occupied at all times no matter where you are!!

I don't really take the girls on that long of a day errands anymore. Many reasons; one, they do go to their dads' for a few days, and two, I find it harder with my dd's than with my sons. Personality, really, not so much gender.

Otherwise, I do take them on a bit shorter excursions, and that's enough for this mom!!!

  all!

well, another monday morning with a sick child...Nick has a stomach bug!
I pray that the other two don't get it, but you all know how that works...if one gets it...
Anywho, my DH was so kind last night...I had a Stampin' Up stamp thing last night and Nick was sick last night.
My DH took care of him while i went to this "girl's night out" thing. He's such a sweetie!
Of course, the "mom" in me didn't want to go, but i really needed time away.
It was fun, and since this person is going to have a class once a month, I think i will go every month!

well, Nick's tummy is better. The other two are fine...no sign of illness! thank goodness!

Last night, Nick was horsing around the living room and collided with the bottom of the rocking chair!
He cut his brow bone...right above his left eye! It bled terribly! :swoon:
I ran him to the ER, and they glued it closed! Thank God he didn't need stitches, and no concussion.
Then this morning Nick wakes up with puffy lips!
So I called the pediatrician...they said to bring him in.
So I gather all three boys up and go to the doc's.
She examines him and says it's nothing to be concerned about. His tongue/throat is not swollen, he's breathing fine. That it's just fluid from the trauma. :sigh:
ok! so then I had to bring Nick to school because he missed the bus.
Again...lug all 3 boys to Nick's school.
They have this new sign in system--computerized. So it took me nearly 15 minutes to sign him in late!
There has got to be a better way!
Anyway...i'm just glad Nick's ok. :pink:

Wow, Mare, you've had an eventful morning already! I hope all goes well from here on out. At the very least for the remainder of the week. I know when my daughter was a few years younger we were constantly taking her to the doctor for one thing or another. She was/is a tomboy and is much more adventuresome than my teenage son has been in all his 17 years.

It's a never-ending adventure, isn't it?

Just imagine how God feels about His kids when we crash and burn; lol.
that is so true!
You know...becoming a mom has enlightened me about what God gave us!
Just think about it...His only Son!! for us!!!
Amazing! Would we be so willing, i wonder...
