  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I run 5 to 10 miles a day but it's through neighborhoods etc, I have to use my car to measure the distance. Last night and again today I started running around this middle school track because it's better on my shin splints. Unfortunately I can't drive my car on the track :p And the distance isn't posted, does anyone know off hand how long those school tracks are?

I think that one time around the track is approximately 400 meters. I could be wrong though.

seraph,

been feeling a bit guilty sending you to training programs i havent really checked out, what i'd expect to see is 3 main runs:
1) long slow distance runs... increasing gradually in distance as the weeks progress
2) some speed or hill work.. short hard intervals with recovery between, to overload your system and force it to adapt
3) some pace work, medium distance runs getting to know what certain running speeds feel like in terms of exertion.. to ensure you can pace yourself well.

and maybe some short easy recovery runs or cross training inbetween.
for a beginners schedule i'd expect to see at least 2 total rest days, since recovery is as important as the training
some schedules include an easy week say once a month where you'd cut back the long run and overall weekly mileage to 60-75% of the previous week.

I love to run, it really helps me to stay in shape! I cannot usually run for more than thirty minutes withuut stopping, but if I stop and let my heart rate go down for like 3 minutes I can go again. I have a fast heart rate when I exercise...I have been to the cardiologist for it, but there's not much you can do I guess. They gave me an inhaler to use but I don't want to use steroid power (I have heard bad things about its effects). I would love to run a marathon someday though! :)

I love to run (or jog). No marathons or anything but 3-5 mi. every other day or so is a great cardio workout. It doesn't even have to be a fast-paced run. 10-12 min. miles are great! This coming from a guy who never ran before the age of 33 or so. One of the benefits of doing it consistently is that it naturally raises your metabolism, meaning you burn calories more efficiently, even when you're not running. Plus it's great for the most important muscle in your body, your heart.

BUMP!!! Just thought I'd revive this one! :)

Okay, here's my issue....I've been running on the treadmill at the gym because of the awfully cold, yucky weather we're having here in the east coast. It's driving me crazy!!! (Just thought I'd vent) Does anyone else out there hate running on the treadmill as much as I do? Anyone???

Hi everyone! I used to run cross country when I was a kid, I also was a (very mediocre) sprinter and did a lot of running for gymnastics training. I haven't done ANY running since then (except from Jesus:blush: !).

Seven months ago I quit smoking and I have gained a lot of weight- 35 pounds- aaack!!

Two weeks ago I blew a good chunk of change on a good pair of runners and I started training for the Vancouver 10 k sun Run. I'm mostly walking right now, doing the 30 sec. run, 4 min. 30 sec. walk first week, then shift 30 more seconds from walking to running each week. I'm really excited about this.

Oh by the way, I won't be running in the actual race since it's too far away but I am still training and going to run it here at home nonetheless.

I do running. I used to run about 7 Km, now I've decided I'd rather run 3 Km but faster.

I love the feeling in my heart and lungs that the effort causes, I love the sweet sleep I get carried into as my body recovers from doing the exceptional effort, and I feel like I'm flying when I run.
