Hi,

I'm due to be running my first 10k this weekend I know I've got to carb load the night before is there foods I should avoid (it's worth noting I take metformin for pcos (I'm so at risk of diabetes that they are doing it even though I've currently got no risk factors) ) and also breakfast on the day... I don't want to be sick whilst running! Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi; good to see you; God bless His Word to you.

Talk to a dietician or doctor; their advice can be of help.

It's spiritually healthy to read God's Word and pray day by day.
My gp said "good luck" honestly she's a cross fitter so her advice is protein protein protein.

Well, start 2 months ago, :) , take a tablespoonful of apple cider vinegar diluted in water tea coffee or juice, with a tablespoonful of honey (usually great for anyone including if they have insulin/blood sugar troubles/ imbalances) ,
every morning and evening. This increases stamina and endurance every day , all the time, and optimizes (to some extent, as possible considering everything else) the body's metabolism naturally, beneficially.
KEEP TESTING - keep searching, keep investigating, keep learning, especially as any drug affects our bodies adversely.

Don't eat anything within 3 hours of the race and eat lightly. In regards to carbo loading, day before is ok, but 2 days before, is better.

Argh, it's tomorrow, I'm just about surviving the carbs... feeling bloated and icky but will be glad to be over with it. My mamma is staying over tonight and then watching me run/ walk / hobble it

That is why it is best to carbo load 2 days before, to get over the bloating. One other point, carbo loading is of little benefit, if you have not gone through a period of very low carbs, to deplete glycogen stores in the muscles.

About 7 days before the race, go 3-4 days with very low carb intake, while running each day. This will deplete glycogen stores and then 3-4 days before the race, reduce miles and load back up on carbs. This will cause the body to store more glycogen than it normally would.
