The idea of a debate between the two governors first emerged in June when Newsom expressed his readiness to engage in a three-hour standoff with DeSantis during an interview with Hannity.

[On Hannity's show recently] DeSantis responded positively, stating, ”Absolutely I’m game, let’s get it done, just tell me when and where. We will do it.”

Newsom’s team has proposed November as a potential time frame. In their letter, they outlined specific rules for the debate, including a 90-minute format aired by Fox News, moderated by Sean Hannity, and without a live audience.

The very early rounds of the 2028 Presidential Election Campaign are boring.

It does promise to be a good debate of 'red state' versus 'blue state' policy issues without candidacy or campaigns getting in the way.

I'm not sure this is a good idea for Newsom. DeSantis is not an honest man, why would he engage in honest discussion? Why platform him? Better to just ignore him and focus on making California a success that can speak for itself.

If I were Newsome, I wouldn’t be in the same physical venue as my debate opponent.

Ron DeSantis and Gavin Newsom will debate on Fox News in November

The ideologically opposed governors will face off in Georgia on Nov. 30. Fox News' Sean Hannity will host.

The debate will air on Hannity's namesake show from Georgia, though a specific location in the key battleground state remains "to be determined," Fox News said in a news release.

This debate is about 2024.

But yes, Democratic voters will be introduced to Newsome for 2028. He also will quickly become the emergency candidate for 2024, if Biden needs to drop out for health or family reasons.

As far as 2024, Newsome is simply helping Republicans not named Trump or DeSantis.

4 takeaways from the Newsom-DeSantis debate on Fox News

California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis turned their feud over blue and red state policies personal Thursday, clashing for more than 90 minutes over crime, taxes, COVID-19 pandemic policies, immigration, book bans and other divisive issues in an unorthodox debate that both men hoped would propel their national political ambitions.

Hannity stacks the deck and Newsom goes on the defense

But with questions from Hannity aimed at California’s higher tax rates and crime rates, the governor was on the defense for much of the evening

San Francisco takes a beating as a ‘template’ for Democrats’ America

DeSantis alleged the Democratic governor has allowed the quality of life in California to deteriorate on his watch. He zeroed in on homelessness, Newsom’s greatest political vulnerability.

Abortion is political problem for DeSantis

“Ron DeSantis signed the most extreme antiabortion bills in America,” Newsom said. “So extreme is your ban that criminalizes women and criminalizes doctors that even Donald Trump said it was too extreme.”

Will DeSantis get a boost?

The performance is likely to help DeSantis gain some attention, especially on Fox News and other conservative venues. But it could be hard to reverse his slide in the polls as Nikki Haley, the former U.N. ambassador and GOP rival, picks up steam and Trump remains the clear front-runner for the nomination.

“When are you going to drop out and at least get Nikki Haley a shot to take down Donald Trump?” Newsom said in a taunt near the end of the debate.

From the video excerpts I saw, Nikki Haley should be thanking Gov Newsom.
