  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here are two ways in which we are definitely not like the Romans
1) The Romans were never able to acheive a victory over the Germans (Tuetoburg Forest, Germanic tribes sacking the Empire during the 5th century).
2) In the Roman Republic and Empire, the wealthy comprised the legions. The American military is made up primarily of poorer and middle-class people.

That depended on where you were in the army. The light infantry and archers tended to be poorer. The Legionnaires were usually upper middle class

Let me tell you this Jesus Loves you he died for you.ANd wants nothing more than for you to love him.
Thats nice, he's out of luck. Look at my signature, that is my motto, that is the rule I live my life by

KNow you might think that things are bad.But GOd is always watching over you because he loves you more than you could ever ever know!
Then he has some odd ways of showing it. Love between two people is the most powerful form of love. When I look into my love's eyes and I see whats in her heart and I know that I love her and that she loves me, THAT is love. Sticking together through the worst of times and being together through the best. THAT is love, my friend. Your God cant match that, not in my eyes

He can more than match it he made you.Just like he made Adam.If you would just let him in.He would get you through the worst of times and he does now.HJe loves you so very much that he gave his only son Jesus Christ at the Cross on Calvary (Golgoltha-i think that's how it's spelled)so that you may have eternal life with him.

Well I hope he kept the recipt because I dont WANT eternal life with him. I dont want eternal life period.

This phrase means something to me:
So ,Gilgamesh, accept your fate. Each day ,bathe in warm water and wear clean clothes.Fill your stomach with delicious food.Play, sing, dance, and be happy both day and night.Delight in the pleasures your wife brings you and cherish the little child that holds your hand. Make every day a feast of rejoicing! This is the task that the gods have set before all human beings. This is the life you should seek, for this is the best life a mortal can hope to achieve.

Pentecostal Boy: I think the kind of evangelical ranting you are indulging in is intended to wound Antonius Verus rather than to enlighten him. The advice that I would give you, Christian to Christian, is to ask God for the power to convey your thoughts in a way that adds to His glory rather than sullies His reputation by association.

Something to think about.

Chris.

Is true. In reading Pentacostal boy's posts, my first reaction is that he has to be joking, and yet, he seems to be serious. Probably my bad for not reading more of your posts. ;)

One real important way in which the USA is different from Rome is that Rome taxed their subject peoples. If we are taxing the Afghanis, I haven't heard of it. Or the Japanese or Germans after WWII.

What do you think the Romans would have done about the problem of Mexico? Don't you think they would have just seized the land, enslaved the people for nannies and landscape workers, and taken their oil?

Rome would of taken all of it instead of just half of it like we did.And the JApanese Afghans (can't spell) weren't ever under our control. We did have Germany for a little while but we were given it just like France,Britian, and the U.S.S.R.

When the Romans beat someone in a war, they occupied the country. The USA rebuilds the country, and it becomes a world economic power. Anyway, I'm talking about the problems with Mexico in the last 100 years, or so. The USA WAS imperialistic for a while, no doubt.
