  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The soul was no longer with the body, thus the body was "dead" and thus they are relics.

Yet they are still lifeless bones.

What about a proper Christian burial, and let the remains return to the dust they came from while the spirit awaits the Resurrection and a new body that is free of corruption and sin?

Genesis 3;
19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread
Till you return to the ground,
For out of it you were taken;
For dust you are,
And to dust you shall return.”
John 6:63
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

When does that happen?

Yeah you're gonna have to do better than that. There's no biblical support for lighting candles and praying to pics of dead people.
Yes, you are correct. There is probably zero reason to have candles that is somehow Bible supported.

But let's remember, for about the first eighteen centuries of AD times, there was no electricity.

If by "pics" you mean "icons" than I would suggest reading St. John of Damascus. He wrote a big thing against the iconoclasts in the 8th century and, believe it or not, actually had biblical support!

But you are wrong. People are not dead. For to die would mean that there is no everlasting life after the body died. Thus, there is no salvation with that thinking.

How could the remains turn to dust when the Holy Spirit is still strong within the remains and prevents dust turning? Tis a sign of sainthood and holiness. As well as "close to God-ness".

So says Tradition.

Scripture defines a saint without such things occuring.

What is the spirit doing while it is waiting?
Wasn't JESUS resurrected whole but incorruptible? Just curious.

It might "appear" to SOME that Moses and Elijah already had their "bodies" when they appeared on the MOUNT with Jesus...and 3 Aposles looked upon them.

It might also appear that many Saints of the O.T. appeared in Jerusalem after the resurrection, showing off their bodies...

Matt. 27:
52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

The process of fossilization is supposed to be enabled by lots of pressure of lots of rock, etc.

I've not heard of any saint's bones that are buried for 1,000,000 years under tonnes of pressure.

Thomas also touched the wounds!

Who said the bodies of Moses and Elijah were phantoms? Who said the bodies of the saints were phantoms?

The "possibilities" of what Jesus could do with His Body should be viewed at least in part by what He did with it...(became invisible, changed His Visiage, passed through walls...appear suddenly...raised into the air on clouds, appeared AS BLINDING LIGHT and WORDS to Paul for example) I am very reluctant to say what Jesus could or couldn't do with His Body other than what I know FROM THE WORD'S revealing. Certainly not willing to say HE CAN'T do just about anything He wanted to...Maybe even appear with WHITE WOOL HAIR...BRONZEN LEGS AND A TONGUE SWORD MADE OF FIRE! Now THAT I doubt even Thomas would "touch."

The BREAD that He Broke was His Word...

He DIVIDED IT and FED it to His disciples...

Do you understand HOW He divided IT?

He DIVIDED ONE PORTION against the WICKED...

And He DIVIDED ONE PORTION for MANKIND...

That is how Jesus' Words were RIGHTLY DIVIDED...

And both of these PORTIONS were FED into the DISCIPLES just as they are FED INTO us to this day...

His Word IN US, DIVIDES...us...from what we are BOUND WITH...

HE LIFTS the ONE and CONDEMNS the OTHER...

Jesus had THE WISDOM OF SOLOMON in DIVIDING THE CHILD PROPERLY...

Moses and Elijah appearing with Christ was a vision, Christ clearly said this to the assembled disciples. The vision is symbolic of Christ fulfilling the law and the new covenant as represented by Moses and Elijah respectively.
Hi. I have heard the Messianics claim that JESUS was just renewing the Covenant instead of making it brand New. I disagree with them. Peace.

Ezekiel 37:26 And I cut to them a Covenant of Peace, age-abiding he shall become with them.
And I give them, and I increase them, and I give sanctuary/04720 miqdash of Me in midst of them for age-abiding.

Luke 19:41 And as He nears, beholding the City and He laments on Her,
42 saying, "That if thou-knew, and thou, even indeed in the day, this, the toward Peace of thee, now yet it was Hid/ekrubh <2928> (5648) from thy eyes".

Under the right conditions, dryness being one, bones or flesh can last a thousands of years.

There are bones and natural mummies discovered all the time.

Here is a DVD produced by the "History Channel" that you can get on the subject:

Using that line of reasoning, then every genuine Christian should never have their lifeless physical bodies decay, yet they do.

You see, it was never God's intention to preserve the bodies we have now. After Adam and the rest of us came under the corruption of sin, that old body has to die, and return to the dust it came from.

Why do you think there is resurrection where the True Believers in Christ are given new bodies?

There are other reasons for bones or even flesh being preserved for long periods, such as natural mummification:

That is generaly true, but I've seen fossilization of brain tissue happen under only social pressure, but even then I have to admit that pressure has existed a couple thousand years & is credited to a rock, although there's much controversy about identifying which rock.

Interesting.
I was in a discussion with Muslims on the NCR board awhile back and one of them brought up about a mummy that was found which they believe to be the Pharaoh mentioned in Exodus of the Bible.
I will try and find it. Peace.

When does that happen?

When the last of the Elect come into the Kingdom:

1 Corinthians 15:

20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming. 24 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. 27 For “He has put all things under His feet.”[a] But when He says “all things are put under Him,” it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted. 28 Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.
