So being a hotel employee I get two free nights anywhere there are vacancies in dec, plus more nights at a discounted cost. I've never been to ny and my friends and i are considering a roadtrip the weekend before Christmas. Alabama to NYC... 17 hours drive according to mapquest, plus 6 hours from nyc to buffalo for a day, plus another day crossing the boarder to canada possibly, and then back home. It's 1000 miles each way from al to nyc. plus everywhere else we go. but driving and splitting the gas would be cheaper than flying and we could see more of the country. Does this sound too crazy?

Road trips are fun when you're with the right people. I'd just say watch out for a substance we have in the north called snow.
Yeah, that's one problem... I've lived in AL all my life. Never driven in snow. Not one bit of snow. Or ice. Just how much snow might there be at that time of year? Would my car need anything different for driving in snow/ice?

road trips  I'm a fan of giving yourself enough time to get out of the car. Do you think you'd have that? ;)

Snow tires. Probably a scraper to get any snow and ice off your windshield. Also, knowledge of how to drive in snow/ice. That would be 1) don't panic and 2) avoid any sudden movements.
