How is prayer to the god of one religion different from a prayer to the god of your religion?

And, no, you don't get to say yours "is true".
A true Conservative or Liberal Christian would never pray to what they consider a fake God.They should be nice to all people. But not pray to what they think is false God's .

Well, this is a wake up call to my fellow Republican friends, that no party is Christian.

We actually know this.

Political parties represent their constituents' - their voters' - wishes when making laws.

We have a framework for our government and our laws that comes from our Christian faith, it's an outline for our Christian worldview, but it doesn't represent God, God stands above and outside of that framework and is the Entity which gives us our inalienable rights which the government cannot infringe upon.

But over many lifetimes we have a constituency that wants to live in accordance with our values as outlined in our constitution as our friends and neighbors, but doesn't always share our faith.

Because the government is not there representing God but rather the constituents themselves, when there are benedictions given the attempt has always been made to be inclusive of the various beliefs held by the voters.

I do block my ears and don't listen to benedictions given by those of other faiths because it does bother me, it's not something I'm used to and when I don't know what people are saying I don't know if they are cursing me.

But I do know that making sure our countries invited guests feel like they are a welcome part of our country is important, and both sides of the aisle have tried to make everyone feel represented.... Even in the benedictions.

In the end, I know the God I worship is the only God. Any other spiritual entity has no power before my God so I and my country are perfectly safe even if they are cursing me.... That's really all I need to know.

Something Christians can all do when people of other faiths pray, is that we pray to our God at the same time against the forces of darkness and ignorance... It's quite beneficial if you're worried about curses and the like.

Yeah, we do know this. We should be very careful with opening prayers. Prayers from other religions bother me, and it makes me feel bad for our world. But yes, YHWH is the one true God. The opening part of the RNC could have been a speech about uniting religions instead of a prayer.

That is one solution.

Personal I like the idea of always opening with differing religious communities traditions. I can see what they do and understanfnrhrm a bit more. It's certainly nor going to make me become bhai or whatever. It's just a curiosity.

"YHWH is the one true God", is your belief. Not everyone shares it.

It seems to me that in governmental situation we should stick with the language of our founding documents.

The first mention of God occurs in the very first sentence of the declaration which refers to the source of power being the “Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.” The beginning of this powerful document openly acknowledges from Whom power comes. The founders recognized that they had not created the power to establish a nation, but rather that power was given to them from God.

Second, God is referred to as the Creator Who endows humans with unalienable rights. In other words, God is the granter of human rights and the Creator of natural law. A year before the Declaration of Independence Alexander Hamilton wrote, “The sacred rights of mankind are not to be rummaged for, among old parchments, or musty records. They are written, as with a sun beam, in the whole volume of human nature, by the hand of the divinity itself; and can never be erased or obscured by mortal power.”

Third, God is called the “Supreme Judge of the world.” Our founding fathers recognized that justice is God’s idea, not man’s. He judges the actions of all people and ensures that ultimately true justice will prevail.

Fourth, the final sentence of the declaration says, “with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.” The founders entrusted themselves to God, the “divine Providence,” Who they believed had protected them and would continue to do so.

There is no mention of God in the constitution, only religion.

All but four state constitutions – those in Colorado, Iowa, Hawaii and Washington – use the word “God” at least once. The constitutions in Colorado, Iowa and Washington refer to a “Supreme Being” or “Supreme Ruler of the Universe,” while Hawaii’s constitution makes reference to the divine only in its preamble, which states that the people of Hawaii are “grateful for Divine Guidance.”


It seems to me that rather than trying to honor and recognize all gods and religions we should stick simply with "Creator" or "Supreme Judge". And since "God" is on our currency, that also. So for government invocations something like "God, our creator & Judge" seems to me most appropriate.

The Republican National Convention had an opening prayer by Dhillon to an ancient entity, a false god named Waheguru today on July 17, 2024. Prayers for those who are misled by the world. Makes me wanna vote for the American Solidarity party, a centrist, Christian party which is pro-life and pro-environment, and it does not force religion on others. For reference, I was never a Republican, and have moved closer to the center from the left over the past few years, and especially over the past few months.

Maybe this is a first step to understanding why people are opposed to prayer in schools or legislating the ten commandments to be displayed on public structures.

I understand this, and many Sikh folks are nice.

But you started this thread by declaring they worship demons (which if I understand your religion, are agents of evil).

That's sad....

I watched a portion of her speech introducing her husband. No one applauded when she mentioned her background....and what I would characterize as polite applause when she spoke of her matrimony as testament to this great country.

The prayer was this, according to this article:

Well, this is a wake up call to my fellow Republican friends, that no party is Christian. Many folks associate the Republicans for having a Christian moral ground, when in reality, no party has a Christian moral ground.

And hey, whatever works for you. If one is Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh or Mormon, these folks have every right to believe in their own religion, as long as it is not forced onto us. For myself, I believe Jesus is the one true God. In our prayers as Christians (well as a Catholic), we pray in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the three parts of the Trinity. Jesus died for our sins as stated in John 3:16. None of these other gods died for our sins, nor have forgiveness on the level that Jesus does.
And yet we haven’t had threads created about the opening prayers on other days of the convention...the difference being the prayer wasn’t going to the “correct god”.

Most of the time we cannot perceive our own hypocrisy, it has to be pointed out to us…that you’ve seemingly taken offense at this opening prayer alerts me to inform you that you might wanna do some introspection ?
