Greetings. How do others view that story Jesus told to the Jews in Luke 16 concerning the rich-man and lazarus. A parable or true story? This is one of the largest studies I have of the NT/NC.

I myself humbly view it as a "Covenantle" parable, but would like to here views from other fellow Christians of it. Thanks.......

Matthew 3:9 "And no ye should be thinking to say in yourselves 'a Father we are having, the Abraham'. For I am saying unto ye, that is able the God out of the Stones, these, to raise-up offsprings/children to the Abraham. [Luke 3:8/16:24]

Luke 16:24 And he sounding said: "Father Abraham! be thou merciful to-me! and send Lazarus!, that he should be dipping the tip of the finger of him of water, and should be cooling down the tongue of me,--that I am being pained in the Flame, this."

Lazerus and the rich man is a parable not a literal reality....full stop.

I have not had a chance to read all the posts but by now somebody has explained the true meaning behind the parable......

However for the lay person not meant to understand the true meaning, here is a tip.

Have you noticed that during the telling of the parable, that not once is there a mention of the name of JESUS....THE ONLY NAME UNDER HEAVEN BY WHICH MEN SHALL BE SAVED....

It is a dead give away that the story is a parable, (a teaching story) not a literal reality...

For you lay people out there,(like me) the next time you hear somebody trying to pass off the Lazerus and the Rich Man as a Literal reality...shoot them down in Flames (pardon the Pun) with the factual tip I just gave you.

They have no way around it....

Peace

1 Corinthians 10:10-4
Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Don't want this thread to die out just yet.
I was pondering on starting a seperate thread on a verse by verse study on Luke 16:19-31, along with the translation of each verse using the major Greek texts [as I am now doing with Romans and Galatians on other threads].

Would anyone be interested?

Here is an example of vs 19

Luke 16:19 Yet a certain Man was rich and in-slipped/enedidusketo <1737> (5710) purple and fine-linen making-merry down to a-day shiningly

Parable.
This thread is for discussion on the "richman/lazarus" parable of Luke 16 ONLY.
Anything you want to add to it other than links to parables?

The pages that are given for each of the books (not links) cover that particular parable--and ONLY that parable. I had assumed, silly me, that people would like to learn more about the parable.

what's always intrigued me about the parable is that the rich man was in seeing proximity of Lazarus' bliss...and was beyond of EVER reaching it....reminds me of the 23rd Psalm....

"Thou wilt prepare a table before me in the presence of mine enemies...."

PROFOUND! THAT'S something to munch on a while, isn't it?

Luke 15:3 And he spake this parable unto them, saying,

A series of parables ensues (including the one under discussion). ;)

But then you already know how I see it, having posted on it before.
