Hi there,

There is probably only 100,000 ways of thinking about this - I could be wrong (that's always a reversibility of time that does not change ____) - but "rescience" #is it as effectual to your open mind as it sounded?

Re meaning again; science meaning (initially) associated with conscience.

I would appreciate the use of the word in a sentence, that either does or does not also have the word science in it - if possible.

If the conscience isn't properly oriented and made sensitive to the things of God from an early age, then as a child grows into an adult, concepts such as evolution will become a matter worthy of investigation.

Thalidomide, once touted as a prenatal wonder drug, was "rescienced" to a postnatal or a-natal drug.

Pluto was "rescienced" and removed from our list of ordinal planets.

But it was done without conscience -- by a rigged vote.

Other "resciences" would stem out of tragedies by:
  1. the Titanic
  2. the Hindenburg
  3. Phlogiston
  4. Three Mile Island
  5. Chernobyl
  6. the Deepwater Horizon
  7. L'Aquila
  8. Apis mellifera scutellata
  9. the Cuban missile crisis
  10. eugenics
  11. Hesperopithecus haroldcookii (sp?) and other such goofs
  12. Pop Rocks and soda pop -- (who's that kid that blew himself up with those?)
  13. various and sundry other embarrassments & tragedies, compliments of your local whitecoats

Here's one closer to home. All (heavily tax-payer subsidized) university science department programs intended to help clean up our lakes were suspended in order to 'study' a 'newly discovered community of organisms' that seemed to thrive in hyper-eutrophic waters.

What's that old saying?

Haste makes waste?

I think sometimes scientists have to scramble to make the next issue of Scientific Americon.

  1. Phlogiston

It was actual science that disproved Phlogiston.

  1. the Deepwater Horizon

This really had nothing to do with science so much as greed on the part of BP and not installing all the proper control items on the stem.

  1. the Cuban missile crisis

How on earth do you lay this at the feet of science? It was politicians.

I don't think anyone thinks scientists are perfected beings of light. Science is willing to say that some of them have bad ideas. Unlike some Christians who will never admit that the faith has had missteps in things like The Crusades and The Witch Trials.

  1. Hesperopithecus haroldcookii (sp?) and other such goofs
Ohmygosh! Are you telling me that people almost 100 years ago made mistakes???

Well that means all of science is pure evil. Pure work of the devil himself!

  1. Pop Rocks and soda pop -- (who's that kid that blew himself up with those?)
OOPSY! You appear to have made a mistake here! I don't believe there have been any actual cases of people dying from poprocks and soda. Does this mean we can ignore all of your points now?

  1. various and sundry other embarrassments & tragedies, compliments of your local whitecoats

Get off your high horse there, man. Judge not lest ye be judged.

Hey, thanks for judging a bunch of people you don't even know! I love it! I hope someone judges you likewise.

What is it YOU do that we may insult all of them? "Con" of some sort I think?

So?

It was science that gave us Phlogiston [theory] in the first place.

No scientists balked at that, did they?

And those who applied for waivers of safety checks and whatnot -- they weren't scientists?

Usually after the fact.

That is, after the damage has been done.

Nope.

God gave us scientists as gifts to better mankind.

But for the most part, they are using those gifts against Him.

Just adding my spin to a term that doesn't seem to have a clear definition. ^_^

In your opinion, were the Crusades and the witch trials done with respect to the Bible, or in spite of It
Definitely with respect to the bible.
Just for starters:
Exodus 22:18, “Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live,”
Leviticus 20:27, “A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or is a wizard, shall surely be put to death,”

Matthew 16:24 "Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me."

You can also add to that The Inquisitions & Slavery just to mention a couple.

I'll tell you what then.

You bring me a bona-fide witch,* found guilty by a jury of her peers and sentenced to death via due process of law -- and then we'll talk.

How's that?

* And by bona-fide witch, I don't mean these modern-day self-proclaimed dressed-for-success working types who profess to be a witch in the privacy of her home and having "tea parties" with twelve of her "friends" on the Sabbath.

I'm talking about a woman with the power to call up a man's spirit that has died and gone down to Parad...

Oh, wait!

My bad.

I was thinking of the witch of Endor.

You know?

The one who called Samuel up from Paradise?

But I forgot that Paradise was taken to Heaven when Jesus arose from the dead.

And, silly me, I also forgot that the Holy Spirit blankets this earth in this dispensation and keeps these kinds of activities in check!

Nevermind.

I guess there aren't any witches today.

Sorry to disappoint you.

No hanging tonight!

Not from us, anyway.

We believe the Bible.

I think that ____ once again ____ ____ you have given really intelligent answers, AV1611VET.

What is profound, is that I had a single concept, which to me seemed like half what science had begun to be and with your recollection of historical science - through that lens - you correctly qualified at least a dozen instances where it could already (have been) believed to have meant something.

Between us, that is a redefinition of something immensely more scientific (in Jesus' eyes) than will ever be credited as even remotely connected to evolution, mutation or (survival ____) - at least ____ ____ ____ the way things currently stand (as you might say, to "geniuses, in their own estimation of a population ___ ___").

I am not sure that it will amount to more than an understanding that we have humbled ourselves, in the end - but fortunately you and I both have known: that is exactly what has been asked of us ____ ____ ____ ____.

Saying you will "kiss the feet of a scientist" and repeatedly pointing only to the evils you perceive science has done makes you a hypocrite.

Speaking as a scientist I wouldn't want you slithering up to kiss my feet. I can guarantee you that.

So?

It was science that gave us Phlogiston [theory] in the first place. No scientists balked at that, did they?

-sigh- I wish our education system worked better. Phlogiston was a wholly unevidenced guess at the nature of oxygen before anyone had any real ideas about it. SCIENCE, using actual TESTS OF THE HYPOTHESIS found Phlogiston to be pure bunk. It failed.

So, by your "thinking" any time anyone guesses at something which is later proven wrong is a hit against science. Good on ya. You don't know the history of science and you are expanding out your critiques.

And those who applied for waivers of safety checks and whatnot -- they weren't scientists?

So if a scientist is in the room when something bad happens or if a scientist signs a paper that makes a bad thing THE FAULT OF SCIENCE QUA SCIENCE? This is silly.

No military science involved there -- was there?Myself included.Usually after the fact.

-sigh- You are really grasping at straws here to slander science. THIS is why I wouldn't want you slithering up to kiss the feet of THIS scientist. It's stuff like this.

That is, after the damage has been done.In your opinion, were the Crusades and the witch trials done with respect to the Bible, or in spite of It?

Double standard, AV. Double standard. THIS is why you are a hypocrite on this topic.

These things were done by people who thought they were acting in direct accord with the Bible. "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live".

Only problem? There were no witches. Science helped show us that.

God gave us scientists as gifts to better mankind.

Damn right. So stop attacking them all the time. Judge not lest ye be judged.

ALL YOU DO on this forum are try to throw mud at scientists. You have your list of causus belli that you keep pulling up like a dog regurgitating its vomit. And you bark loudly so everyone sees the puddle.

And then you try to lick our faces and say you would "kiss our feet". Sorry, but I don't buy it.

But for the most part, they are using those gifts against Him.

"for the most part"? LOL! You need to stop slandering countless people you don't even know.

Most of us who go into science don't go into it to make a big huge chunk of money. We go into it because we want to understand. It is people like you who then spend all their time telling us the EVIL we've done. In reality you puke up a small number of chunks of things that either went wrong or were outright bad and you want to smear the mess over all of the rest of science.

And when someone DARES to point out the excess of faith-based people you run away screaming special pleading.

Sorry, it doesn't work that way. Don't puke this stuff up anymore, we KNOW what is in your "belly" and it isn't love of science.

Let scientists go unchecked with their Antibiblical paradigms and philosophies?

And it isn't anti-biblical to bear false witness by laying blame for things science qua science isn't responsible for? Oh, forgot, by any means necessary. The end justifies the means. Do whatever it takes.

Keep it in your belly.

Okay.

Thank you for the correction.

You made a mistake. By your OWN CALCULUS we can now disregard everything you say or do moving forward. Just as you have done with science.

You find errors others have made and you then decree "for the most part" scientists are working against God.

How does it feel to see the sword you use against others used against yourself?

EDITED TO ADD: I would kiss your feet because you are here to do God's work. (Does that sound sincere to you?)
