Yes, Ctay, you are right, "reputation" was originally meant to be a way of rewarding people for good post. When I came to CF more than four years ago, that is how we used it. I gained my first 40,000 or so points that way.
Then it was changed. It was fun, we've all had some good times.
The harm comes when you start realizing that people are hurting themselves and their families to continue something that has absolutely no bearing on reputation. It's a game, and it's addictive.
We've joked about that as well. We've talked about our "repaholic" habit. The actuality is that it IS addictive.
It's time to see it for what it is.
I've been talking to several other people; several of us are coming to feel the same way.
If the rep cap increases let's call it something else. Let's divorce it completely from the idea of "reputation."

and if they are, wouldn't this just get replaced by somehting else ?
That (that someone might be hurting themself) is the worst reason to get rid of it. After all someone Might be hurting them self just by spending time on the forum.
