  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Remember SILENT SCREAM

I have sense that those who support abortion are just plain selfish. sorry to offend you, thats the truth :)
Thats crap, why is the right to choose selfish? Whats selfish is forcing someone to make a choice they dont want to make because it enables YOU to feel like youve done something good

Is Abortion a pinnacle for the advancment of society?
Why is that relevant?

I am for personal respondibility, you created a potential human being, you are the provider of the human being, you just toss it and throw it like trash, it tells me about your character. No offense, abortion is a emotionally involved topic to many people, but it nothing to deal with women's rights, as many people as advocated, I am pro BABY, not degrading women to property. People need to learn how to be respondible than looking for a quick fix and simple solutions.

If you want to talk about responsibility, what about the thousands of homeless people that will go without dinner tonight. Youll throw a fit for a fetus but you wont lift a finger to help people who are hungry.

You hold the mother in lower regard than you do the fetus which, I think is wrong. It is the mother's body, not yours and as such you have NO right to tell her what to do with it

Some people seem to have a problem confusing the terms 'pro-choice' and 'pro-abortion' in an attempt to further emotionalize their arguments. They're not interchangeable.

I am pro-choice. That doesn't mean I like abortions. It doesn't mean I would ever personally choose to have an abortion. All it means is that I support a woman's right to choose whether or not she elects to have an abortion. Pro-choice is not tantamount to 'pro-abortion'.. this assertion is ridiculous and illogical.

Likewise, the term 'pro-life' is a misnomer. Just because you dislike abortion doesn't mean you're 'pro-life'. For instance.. how many supposedly 'pro-life' individuals support the death penalty in capital offenses? Is execution 'pro-life'? It may sound nicer and more compelling than the alternative, but the fact of the matter is, this isn't about being 'pro-life'.. this is about being anti-abortion.

Even anti-abortion is a misnomer, because in general what they oppose is women's access to legal abortions. The most accurate term is anti-legal abortion or pro-illegal abortion.

This is true. They're not going to stop abortions from occurring. Abolishing safe(r), legal abortion accomplishes nothing more than forcing women to opt for potentially dangerous, illicit means.

Unfortunately, many of the people most vehemently opposed to such reproductive rights are also opposed to educating children about how their bodies work, and how to prevent unwanted conceptions from occurring. The chief problem behind most elective abortions is not the abortion itself, but the ignorance that led to the unwanted pregnancy occurring in the first place.

To the person who mentioned 'just using a condom'.. many of the people receiving elective abortions may well have 'just used a condom'. Unfortunately, no manner of birth control (unless you count abstinence) is 100% effective, and condoms are no exception. It is a fallacy to believe that a condom alone offers full protection.. but, unfortunately, a fallacy that many subscribe to. Hence the need to give kids the facts.

And only slightly hypocritical for those who accept them, but whatever. You can support them, whatever makes you happy. It's just one of the hundreds of reasons I'll never be anti-abortion.

Something tells me you'll be less forgiving of people like the guy who shot his wife and murdered his 6 month old baby, I doubt you'll ever honor what he says or revere his advice on how awful it is to kill babies. I doubt even more you'd put him as a posterchild against murdering babies. But I suspect it's because you, like most people, do not view a fetus as highly as you do a 6 month old baby. That's all I'm saying. It's hypocritical and it makes the anti-abortion movement look foolish. But again, whatever floats your boat, but when somebody asks why I'll never be anti-abortion, this will be a reason I present.

You sure read alot into a simple statement. I would be thrilled if a killer of a 6 month old confessed his sins and became an advocate for little babies. God can forgive anyone who asks for forgiveness.

If that's how you operate to make you feel better, then again, I'm glad it works for you. I am content in being Wiccan moreso than I ever could be in any other religion, and I will never be anti-abortion. I suspect you know this and you're just trying to push buttons. Again, if this makes you happy, have fun

I have faith that God can convert anyone, including you.
If indeed I am trying to push buttons it appears that I am doing a good job of it - my how you do go on.

So you keep your faith in what you think I will do. I will live in the knowledge of what I will do with my life. I know I'm not going to become Christian, I know I will not be anti-abortion, and every day that I'm on these forums, this knowledge is reconfirmed over and over and over and over...

Christian Forums is an unlikely place for someone so determined to never be a Christian to spend so much time on. :p

Abortionists do kill unborn children, but God does forgive people and change their lives and this is indeed miraculous and wonderful.

If Norma McCorvey had not cooperated with the pro-abort feminists, they would simply have found someone else. That was my point. I am thrilled that Norma McCorvey has become a voice in the pro-life movement.

I will continue to pray for God to change your heart and bring you into the Church. Perhaps you will become a voice for the innocent unborn. I have faith!
Does this mean that I can go on a killing spree and then be forgiven after 40 victims because I decided that killing was bad and I wasn't going to do it again? Would I be championed as an anti-murderist or would I be thrown in prison for murdering 40 people?

What if I aborted 40 fetuses instead?

Yes indeed - God will forgive you for murdering forty people if you sincerely ask for forgiveness. Murder is a crime and you would still go to prison, but God can forgive you. Depending on how vocal you are and how much you can accomlish in prison as an advocate against murder than perhaps you can become a champion of the anti-murder cause.

God can forgive you if you sincerely ask forgiveness for aborting forty unborn children as well. However abortion is legal so you cannot be put in prison for this.

But anyway, I wish you luck, I hope your ideals hold for you and I hope you're having fun. I'm sorry that your project with me didn't work out as you wanted, but you can't win them all.

What project? My praying for your conversion? I cannot win them all but God can. I will continue to pray, perhaps I will ask for the intercession of St. Gianna Molla - yes she would be a good one. Perhaps St. Augustine - he was a convert who became a bishop and one of the greatest of the Church Fathers. His mother, Monica prayed continually for his conversion and look what happened!

You make it sound like you almost enjoy the idea of a woman suffering for having an abortion, or maybe it's just because I've been through it and I DID scream, wail, holler, and then proceed to nearly pass out from pain afterward. And yes, I was anesthetized. This abortion occured at 9 weeks, I don't even want to think of what it'd be like to have to do it at a late stage in the pregnancy.

Honestly, you make it sound like women choose to have this done because it's fun and easy. It's not. I still have nightmares and I still miss my baby.

I humbly apologize for your perceived personal offense since my only intention is to represent the stark realities men and women face when they get married to each other in the eyes of the LORD and in the eyes of a secular state.

It is the advocacy of women's abortion rights without their husband's permission by secular feminists which you should find offensive if you are a Christian, Jewish or Muslim woman, since God Himself is offended by any man or woman who finds either His prophets or laws offensive.

Maybe husbands ought to get to know their wives before consenting to marriage, and simply refrain from marrying women who don't share their stance on the matter.

Then, nobody is imposing anything upon anyone.

Religious institutions are free to prohibit their members from engaging in activities as they see fit. They are free to refuse religious recognition of marriages that fail to operate according to their tenets of faith.. without infringing upon the civil rights of myself and others who do not subscribe to your particular brand of faith.

Just because abortion is legally available doesn't mean you have to have one. I fail to see why your chief issue is with the people who provide or advocate the legal availability of abortions and not with the wives who FREELY CHOOSE to obtain them without their husband's involvement. The doctor merely provides a service upon request. S/he does not discriminate on the basis of the woman's race, religion, or any other matter. The doctors do not seek out your wives. These women are not being forced or coerced into receiving abortions, they are seeking out the service providers and requesting them of their own accord. If they are doing so against their husband's wishes (regardless of my stance on that one), that is between them and their husband. If they are doing so against the teachings of their faith, that is between them and their religion of choice. Why are you placing the blame on doctors and "feminists" and advocating that all women be denied the right to choose based on your beliefs- which many Americans do not share- instead of holding these supposed wives accountable for the choices they made of their own free will?

If your wife obtains an abortion against the doctrines of your church, or without your knowledge / blessing, why is that the doctor's fault, or some random feminist's fault- and not your wife's?

Not a bad idea, fillerbunny.

Do you know what shows a great deal of compassion? Taking a procedure (a third-trimester abortion) that no woman undergoes unless extreme circumstances--her own life being in imminent danger--force her into it, and which is no doubt mourned by the family, and parading it around as 1) representative of all abortions and somehow anything like the first-trimester abortions that make up 88% of all legal abortions in this country, and 2) something we should feel extreme moral outrage about.

You know what? The only thing I feel moral outrage about is someone like you using a procedure that a family sees as a tragedy--taking the terrible loss of a very wanted pregnancy and soon-to-be child--and holding it up as something we should pass judgment upon. You find me a woman who has a third-trimester abortion because she just doesn't feel like being pregnant anymore and then maybe I'll feel some outrage. Until then, YOU are the only one who is acting immorally, to exploit the pain of families put into a position I think we'd all hate to be in (either you have an abortion in the third trimester or you will die, and most likely you and the fetus will die in that case) to further your delusional agenda.
