Well, you come to a Christian site and expect Christians to just sit back and not chime in? Not I. If that is not something you can handle, might I suggest some places that would completely cater to what you are seeking?
One thread.... can we not have one thread that is just about tolerance and not dissing other religions?

People come to a Christian website they better be prepared to hear the gospel. If people want to fluff that up, then they can answer for it. Should we all just log off and "shake the dust off our feet" and give the site over to the pagans? No, the purpose of this site is to further the message of Jesus Christ and part of that message is that Jesus has died for our sins to save us from hell and without Him, people are going there for eternity. If you want to steer clear of giving that message that is your choice but I will not, even if I sound like a clanging gong to you or anyone else.
Well this is a non-christian forum right? So if you don't like what goes on in here you could go ealewhere as well.

Jesus has died for our sins to save us from hell and without Him, people are going there for eternity
This was the way the kings had control over the human mind in medieval times. And now people like you are useing this idea as well.

Its really sad.

This happens to just about every thread in the non-christian forum, just like the missionary are doing all around the world.

This thread is for people of ALL religions who believe religious tolerance is important. You don't have to follow or even agree with a religion to be tolerant of it. I call on everyone who believes in tolerance of all religions to highlight the good and commonalities and stop harping on the perceived bad and differences in our religions. Bashers and haters need not post here.

Do you hate people who hate?

Do you think it was wrong for the British to stop the religious practice of suttee? That was where a widow was thrown on the funeral pyre of her late husband, so that she could join him in the next life. Was it wrong not to tolerate this?

It is implied in your very thread that a lot of people here are hateful. This is itself insulting. You can expect people to reply.

No one should tolerate such practices. The British did the right thing in stopping it. But since it happened in India and I am an Indian, I have to clear some misconceptions.

Suttee was a very localized phenomenon performed only in a particular state.
Not the entire Hindu community were throwing their wives into the pyre.
No one should be misinformed, that's why I'm telling this.

The British also looted our wealth. They mass-massacred a group of unarmed people in Punjab.

Please give nice examples.
The British were evil. Don't portray them as liberators of womanhood.
Thanks.

Can we both agree that they were right to stop suttee, and looted and pillaged India?

In other words they did some few things correct. According to Veggie they shouldn't have stopped suttee, because that's intolerence.

You seem to jump on the India thing all the time someone mentions it... lucky I've not mentioned the cricket!

Small logical problem rises ugly head when many different belief systems actually state that they are 'the truth' in an exclusive sense.

You always mention either the Suttee or Thuggee when talking about whether to intolerate or tolerate. That's why I jump on to the India thing.
Because, the uninitiated here might form a very scary image about India and start thinking as though the Brits did the white man's burden in civilizing a barbaric people.

First of all, who were they to tolerate or intolerate what happened in my country. If I was there I woulda asked the Brits to "shove it".

Why? Let's try this way:
there's once three kids, arguing a lot:
"I am telling you, we came from Mamma."
"Of course not! We came from Mon"
"Pheh! you two could not be more wrong. We came from ma, nothing else."
"Come, stop spreading noncense, it's mamma."
"Aaaaargh, you are asking about a fist in your eye."
"That's it, you are not only a liar about Mon, you are also violent"
"It's mamma, i already..."

Now, I don't think their mother will be pleased with this discussion, would she?
Likewise we ando our views of God...

Well said CC. Those of unbelief are hear for only 2 reasons. They are looking for the truth or are trying to tear it down. We as Christians express our beliefs and are labelled intollerant. When the time comes many are going to find out just how tollerant th Lord was with all of us.

By that reasoning then God is upset with religions for being at loggerheads with each other! (???).

However the 'name of God' is not the issue between religions, your analogy is false because you are trying to use 'a' to prove 'b'.

Do you believe people were wrong to stop suttee?

Not at all. I'm here to discuss with other non-Christians, engage in some friendly debate, and hopefully learn something. People from all different religions, from all parts of the world, post here--I've even seen one poster from Antarctica. It's a very interesting place to be, so that's why I'm here.

You're free to express your beliefs all you want, but is it really so much to ask for us to have one thread that doesn't talk about hell? We can't stop you of course, but if your mission is to bring us to the Lord, you're shooting yourself in the foot. The more you preach damnation, the less likely we are to convert, 'cause all it does is alienate us and make us think you're hateful.

There is as much proof of the existance of the Gods & Goddesses that I worship as there is of yours.

I can neither prove that my way is the "one true way" or that your way is false. I attempt neither.

Define 'proof'.

There's a difference between being intolerant of behavior that hurts and kills people, and being intolerant of behavior that isn't hurting anybody.

And before you say it, yes, you believe that not being Christian will eventually hurt us. But that's only your belief and you have no way of proving it.

What is your definition of unbelief?

If someone believes every path is truthful, is it called "unbelief"?

The Lord is tolerant with all of us, not just Christians.

When the time comes, you'll know too.

Isn't that itself trying to impose your ideas on him? He obviously feels, as part of his belief, very strongly about it. You're asking him to stifle his freedom of expression on an issue very important to him, because you feel uncomfortable about it.

Your freedom -v- his freedom.
