If you make a statement about something that happened with which the other guy doesn't agree, then he'll reject it because you 'needed to have been there' to be able to verify it. Note that the reverse in not the case.

And yes, I know it's a schoolyard level argument. But that should give you a heads-up as regards the debating prowess of the person who makes it. How you respond is up to you. A face palm is often used.
Thank you and essential. I thought he would never catch on

Using the 'argument' in the first instance can cause some befuddlement for some people. As in 'Was that meant to be serious? Surely it was sarcasm...he can't have meant it literally'. Mixing it up in some juvenille word game just adds to the confusion.

But then again, I wasn't there when the decision to do that was made, so what do I know...

AV1611VET could have cleared this up himself if he had been willing to answer a simple direct question.

You need to know him as well as I do.

We've exchanged some rather frustrating posts on another site.

You asked if I was willing to learn. You haven't offered anything. You hold me to the highest standards but there is no accountability at all for you. Whose example does an atheist follow?
I tend to follow the examples of good people who lived before me, and good characters from fiction.
But thats just me.

And how would you know if I was being honest, if you don't know what I meant?
And thats just it.
When you are being honest, you speak plainly. You make yourself understood.
You only resort to code words, obscurantism, and jibberish... when you are being dishonest.
If I cant understand you, it's because you are trying to create confusion, to anger me. A dishonest tactic that you too often resort to.
All it takes from you, is the basic respect to not resort to those dishonest tactics.
Just speak plainly. And I will understand you.

No you won't, Dan.

I know you well enough not to buy that.

Remember our conversation with Styx?

Even when I showed you the album cover?

Don't they say a picture is worth a thousand words?

And you still denied knowing what I was talking about (or said I was wrong, I can't remember which).

This. All of this.

There are people who use language to communicate meaning, and those who use it to obfuscate meaning.

It's not difficult to spot an amateur doing the latter...

To some, even the Bible is "jibberish."
Here's one for the geologists:

Luke 19:40 And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.
So more nonsense them.
What is your point with these blue blocks of jibberish?
'Nuff said.

Are you *trying* to prove that you don't know how to communicate?

The quoted text was made *COMPLETELY* out of context and contains (maybe) one whole sentence. It uses three pronouns without any key to identifying the actual person(s) referenced: he, them, and these.

The quoted text then ends with the nonsensical-looking notion of stones "crying out". Perhaps this is some sort of metaphor, though you explicitly reference geologists which destroys any metaphorical notion in the original source.

Randomly inserted into a conversation (as is the case of most of your blue language) in a way that means something to you, but not necessarily anyone else is not communicating. If you had made the quote without the bible coordinates it would have been indistinguishable from gibberish.

Even *in context* the crying-stones part is clearly hyperbole and has absolutely nothing to do with geology, so your reference of it (your work, not luke's) *IS* gibberish.

Only when you're explaining it... Are you going to pretend to be the only one who hasn't noticed the pattern?
