My dear friends of my Talking Circle, I want you all that to know that I'm leaving this site on my own. After speaking to a few of my most trusted NDN friends, including an elder, about the situation I'm dealing with here on CF, I have decided to leave and not return. They have encouraged me to finally admit that I'm not truly welcome on this site because of who I am and because I talk about issues that make many people very uncomfortable and angry and they want to silence me. These good friends of mine have also encouraged me to walk away from this on my own. But before I go, I want you to know that I haven't been silenced about what has been taking place and I'm still standing tall and proud for my people and my ancestors. Sadly, this post will probably be removed and this thread will probably be closed, but for those who do have the chance to read it before that happens, you will know why I'm no longer here. I encourage you not to change who you are. Be strong and be true to who you are. Journey on, my friends. I leave with a heavy heart, but with courage.

The most important talk we can do during any day, is to start the day with prayer and meditation. We need to ask the Creator to be in our lives. We ask Him to direct our thinking. We ask Him for the courage and the power to be gentle. In the morning quiet time, we make our request for guidance using our spiritual tools. We pray for the people and we pray for ourselves. In the evening we thank the Creator for the day, for the lessons and for the opportunity to be of service to others. Then we go to sleep.

You've told us that you know much about Columbus. I'm wondering if perhaps you might know anything about Gov. William Bradford of the ship "Mayflower" and his Indian friends?

I've read parts of his diary but i was wondering if you knew anything about the history from a Native American point of view?

O'siyo pdudgeon. Is there anything in particular you are looking for? I can ask some of my Elders if I knew what it was you were looking for. I personally don't know much about the history you were referring to myself. I have never taken the time to educate myself on it from an NDN perspective before, as I did with Columbus. I'm sorry I couldn't be more help to you at this time. Please let me know if you're looking for anything in particular and I'll see what I can do.

I'm glad you're going to stick around, I know it's tough, this place can be toxic at times. But I just want you to know your voice is needed and it's important. I like threads like this because they can act as safe spaces for many.

Not exactly. What I ran into was people insisting that: Because I am female there were things that I could not do. Because I joined a Lutheran church I was told Lutherans were not born again and would not be "saved." The same was said when I attended a Catholic mass. That I could not be a Christian Humanist, by both Christians and Humanists.

Add that to other things I have seen and experienced in the recent past, I had to let it all go. It was a difficult thing, but it was good for me too. It was a complete reordering of everything I had ever thought and believed.

yeah i guess, i've had to explain atheism is just a disbelief in deity's to multiple people. but not so much in real life (i keep my atheism a secret in real life). i honestly have no idea why my disbelief in gods is such a hard concept to understand to some. my favorite is whn people use terms like"fundamental atheist"

It happens everyday, being Catholic is extremely rough and you constantly get accused of believing things that you don't even believe in.

What is even worse is that I am not a Roman Catholic, the variety of Catholicism that most protestants are familiar with. So I often get accused of using "sun god" wafers or rubbing ashes on my head like some ancient Babylonian cult when I don't even do those things. I love my latin brethren, and we are in communion with one another, so I naturally will defend their practices...even if I do not follow many of them. It is vicious and downright unchristian how we are treated.

Gov. William Bradford was the first Governor of Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts. But it was due entirely to the help that he and the colony received at the hands of the Native Americans that the colony remained alive.

In gratitude for their help, Gov. Bradford asked the Native Americans to a feast (the first Thanksgiving). I've read that Gov. Bradford remained friends with the Native Americans all his life.

Sadly, that friendship between Native Americans and the colonists did not continue after Gov. Bradford's death, or our mutual history might have been very different indeed.

I know you're wondering why i've said these things, but I've always known that where my own heritage was concerned, i had very large shoes to fill. So i was especially pleased when i received your invite here to the talking circle.

you see, i am an 11th generation descendant of that same Gov. Bradford. so to me your invitation was kind of like a chance to start again, to see if it was possible to re-establish a good working relationship between our two peoples.

and yes, by all means take my offer to your elders and see what they have to say.

in my uneducated opinion, they probably would have taken the land by force so about the same just longer and with more battles. E: actually i didnt think that through at all before i slapped the words into my keyboard did i? taking more time to conquer it may have huge reprocussions.
