Recent rise in COVID-19 cases has been mostly in states Trump won in 2016

Florida has reported 12,647 cases today, and has surpassed New Jersey to reach #13 in per capita COVID cases, taking six days to do so.

Florida will be in the top ten in three days.

2 days later. 14,258 cases in Florida, putting it at #11.
California will probably top 10,000 daily cases today. (ETA: most counties didn't report. Los Angeles had 2,500.)
Arkansas is the 18th state to reach 2000 deaths per million.

What will the governor say to the families of those who died as a result of his poor judgement?

I would think that if Florida was Faucied, they wouldn't falling back into another surge of the pandemic. After all, DeSantis failed to do pretty much everything Dr. Fauci advised.

In fact, the governor actually stepped in and prevented local governments from protecting their citizens.

With the inevitable result...

Some things just make sense. I read an article that stated that the 10 states with the lowest IQ are the 10 states with the most COVID infections.

Top 10 states in IQ have the least number of infections.

So it would stand to reason that the lowest IQ states voted for Trump if Trump states had the most cases.

Average IQ by State

There appears to be a weak correlation. Florida and Arkansas are lower than average, but Texas is precisely average, and Missouri has an averge of 101, just over average. A glance suggests that people in blue states do have higher average IQs, but look at Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Kansas.

Top ten:
  1. Massachusetts (104.3)
  2. New Hampshire (104.2)
  3. North Dakota (103.8)
  4. Vermont (103.8)
  5. Minnesota (103.7)
  6. Maine (103.4)
  7. Montana (103.4)
  8. Iowa (103.2)
  9. Connecticut (103.1)
  10. Wisconsin (102.9)
Average IQ by State
Three of ten are red states. But these states do have relatively low COVID-19 infection rates.

First off, let's stipulate that the virus doesn't care about politics. It's doing what it does. Like a wildfire, it grows when there is dense fuel. It slows when fuel is sparse or covered in retardant. Or when all the fuel has turned to ash.

But I thought this was an interesting visual, separating the states Trump won from those he lost.

Surely, politics has nothing to do with the pandemic primarily in states that have low vaccination rates: states like Florida, Texas, Missouri, Alabama and Mississippi.

As an aside, I think that we need to stop stop focusing on mask wearing. Having unenforced recommendations are worse than useless. Also, the mask currently used will not protect anyone from the variant. Since I am vaccinated, and would have a very low viral load even if positive, my wearing a mask might help protect others.

But, let's be clear, the issue is the failure to vaccinate. Republican governors and other leaders are starting to see this obvious fact.

ACTION PLAN

1) Push the CDC and FDA to make a determination of final approval or not of the 3 vaccines used in the US.

2) Fast track the evaluation of boosters. Too many of those vaccinated get the virus. The vaccinated don't end up in the hospital, but they do get sick. Boosters can avoid this.

3) Order the military, all federal employees, and all contractors to require vaccinations for everyone without a religious or medical reason for not taking one. In those cases, provide duty assignments where these unvaccinated folks will cannot infect others. There is no question with regard to the legality of employers having these requirements. And, no one should be subject to firing until the vaccines are given final approval.

4) Suggest that state and local government units require vaccination. NYC suggests that private companies have such requirements, but doesn't require them for city employees.

5) Suggest that large private businesses require vaccinations, or have restrictions on work assignments for the unvaccinated. Many, many companies already do this.

BOTTOM LINE
These actions would present actions that will indeed reduce the number of those who end up in hospitals. And these actions would show that the federal government really does want to take strong steps where they have the power to do so.

I would expect that many states will choose another direction. One approach is to choose an alternative strategy that leads to herd immunity (the FL strategy): let everyone get the variant as soon as possible. After that, we will be able to go back to normal. Unfortunately, it is unclear how effective being infected is in preventing future infections (and the severity of the effects of such infections).

Ummm what makes this new one not work with masks, or just the usual nonsense?

In Florida, new infections have been rising at an exponential rate since the governor stopped local governments from doing anything effective. And now, the number of deaths is rising. So not such a smart strategy.

Probably the same thing the TX Lieutenant Governor said: "There are more important things than living."

People in Missouri are reportedly disguising themselves so that their friends and family won't find out that they getting the COVID-19 vaccine.

Dr. Priscilla Frase of Ozarks Healthcare told ABC News that she had seen more than one person in disguise.

According to the report, Ozarks Healthcare now offers a "private setting" so that patients can get the vaccine without being seen.

I guess escorts will be next.

With fewer abortion clinics to protest, I suppose the Eye of Sauron had to turn its gaze elsewhere.

DiSantis in May, took action against local governrnents that were trying to protect people.

I don't know what he expected would happen.
I suspect Ron expected republicans to give him the nomination for president. All they seem to care about is the next election.
