They were not "cut to the quick," meaning the Spirit did not move upon them, and left them in the same state that they were born: Dead in trespasses and sin.

Salvation is a Spiritual resurrection of the heart. Conviction (regeneration) is God raising the sinner from the dead.
You realize that makes God responsible for their going to hell.

having others question your conclusions allows you to see weaknesses and flaws, never to question is never to learn.
Believers in the teachings of the God-breathed Holy Scriptures do not regard Christian doctrine as "their" conclusions.

But if they have not been given the God given pwoer to believe then it falls back on God and He being responsible.
What does he owe his enemies that they have just claim against him? (Romans 5:10)

As a totally Just God, He must treat them equally
He does threat them equally, he gives them what they deserve, what he owes them.
in the areas that matter. It is not tp pay them a debt, but who God is-- "totally Just".
All mankind owes God a debt generated by disobedience which they cannot pay. God owes them nothing.

And if I have no legal obligation to anyone, what I choose to give anyone is doing no one an injustice, because I don't owe them anything.

You cannot say you are the epitome of Love and not love everyone equally. Is it to hard for you to rescue everyone?
If a rescuer goes into burning building an could just as easily and safely save everyone, yet saves only a few we consider him negligent and shameful. God owes nothing to anyone, so we are not talking about that, what we are talking about is treating everyone equally in areas that matter that is just and thus it would be unjust to extend grace to some and not extend grace to all since it can be done by God at no extra cost to him.

QUESTION: "Are there any ancient or modern-day laws that can be used as illustrative analogies to the substitutionary atonement?"

Looking only for direct analogies. Please, no brainstorming or spitballing.

I've always liked the father pushing his son out of the way of a moving car analogy, or the soldier jumping in the way of a bullet to defend his friend in battle. While these are very crude examples, they do help to illustrate the concept of dying for another in the substitutionary atonement.

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13).
