Covetousness is an "idol"....it is the abomination of desolation that is in a place that it should not be. Many Christians have been worshiping an idol and don't even know it....they have to have their sins declared to them. Any doctrine, practice and tradition that is built upon covetousness is an idol. We don't have to have literal statues of gold and silver to be an idol...it is whatever is highly esteemed among men....that they lust for...money, power, fame, bigger church buildings, larger ministries, etc....all idols motivated by seeking their own glory...."making a name for themselves" upon the earth. Jesus comes again to drive out those who seek to make merchandise of us...this is a prophetic scene for today....Jesus shows us the abomination of desolation in the temple:
(John 2:13 KJV) And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
Here is the literal abomination of desolation in the temple.....covetousness standing where it ought not. Today...it is still in His temple...His body.
14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;
16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.
17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
18 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign showest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?
19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
21 But he spake of the temple of his body.
We are not to keep company with idolaters....we are to depart from them whether they be our own church brothers and sisters...our own church...we can't sit at the same table....
(Mark 10:25 KJV) It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?
27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
28 Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.
29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,
30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
We have to FLEE from idolatry.....which is COVETOUSNESS....the "abomination" that is in the temple....the body of Christ. We must not keep company with a people who say they are fellow Christians but are given to covetousness.
(1 Cor 10:14 KJV) Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.
16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?
17 For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.
18 Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?
19 What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?
20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.
21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.
22 Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?
23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
Jesus will "spue" those out of his mouth....he will cast them out of the Temple of His body....because of the abomination....covetousness for riches and goods...for making merchandise of the people of God...of His body.
(Rev 3:16 KJV) So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
He will gather out of His kingdom all these things....and those who cling on to them:
(Mat 13:41 KJV) The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

.Hi Wheeler ,
after reading your last post and than reading Deut 13 and Deut 7 the cursed thing the abomination and knowing we are the temple of the Living God and God shall destroy that man who defiles it
seems to be by idols ! the last of this chapter has me thinking
we can become the cursed thing ....in Gods holy place where His Spirit dwells , this is most serious a matter , it has me awakened and sober! 1Cr 3:17If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which [temple] ye are.
speaking of the Body of Christ , this Temple not made with Hands but Gods Spirit &Truth
as we are to worship Him in and be holy as He is holy .....
