that's going in the wrong direction

As the cost of automation gradually comes down we hurry up the changeover by raising the cost of human labor, that's the plan, get people out of work asap

For manual tasks in retail in a very big chain store the pay rate to begin automating is 11.00 PH which has now been reached and automation is beginning.

Just have to love those Democrats.

I think the best idea would be to just do away with pay entirely. Just have everyone come to work from 9 to 5 and have them fend for themselves on their off hours. Not going to work? Straight to jail.

Easy fix.

Well that is the opposite end of the spectrum. I think it is still a decade too early to be going that far, but yes, that is basically where we are heading

The present system with low pay and medicaid and other supplements keeps the price of labor down and allows us to continue supplying paid work.

In other words, you're bribing buisnesses to hold off from automation for a bit longer so the poor can be kept busy.

I should explain my last line - Democrats are in the main well intentioned and really do think they are helping the less well paid.

But they really have to get their noses out of the newspaper and look at the World as it is right now.

They were not wrong about the arrival of automation, just 37 years too early and failing to supply a usable solution. The plan was to get rid of manufacturing as it was going to start losing money and that started in a big way in 1982, and we started losing jobs and money in a big way from then on.

Germany did the opposite and kept it's manufacturing and is still doing very well, in fact is riding the wave of automation.

Again there is a clue in the Democratic Party candidates, a likeable bunch in many cases but not enough agreement among them to put together a fully workable plan. 'The road to somewhere very nasty is paved with good intentions'.

Many people seem never to realize that you cannot beat the marketplace. If x happens, then the people will sooner or later react by doing y in response. Liberals never see the consequences; they do not deal in such things as consequences because their theories are always pegged to what they think COULD BE or SHOULD BE (as they imagine an ideal world).

And what's the Republican plan?

#1 above -- Raise the wage too much and the machines will be taking over.
Simple math -- cheaper.

#2 -- no

And what's the Republican plan?

The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.
--Winston Churchill

Except, of course, Churchill did not cover the entire issue in that statement. Capitalism permits the less fortunate to rise, and Socialism never really shares equally. The bureaucrats, Party members, athletes necessary for projecting an image of success, and others live very well at the expense of the poorer people.

Said in a time where socialism actually meant socialism, not the manner in which it's used today by the ill-informed and uneducated.

True, I have been blessed but, came only with decades of hard work.

Also true, I do thank God for those jobs and for my retirement monies.

Your comment was kind of cold.
Many in our church do plenty for others.

That's cool -- some just don't understand
what a pleasure it is to give.

They point fingers at others while
never taking a good look into the mirror.

Exactly. The response is automation, reduced hours (part-time or less), or sending production overseas.

The market will always adjust itself.

Socialism is still Socialism, and we have many examples of that among the nations of the world right now.

Your comment was kind of cold.

It was a quote and I don’t think the intent was to cause offense to anyone.

That's cool -- some just don't understand what a pleasure it is to give.

Some Christians hold an attitude towards the wealthy that is unloving. They denounce their plenty while holding their hands out in expectation and entitlement.

I don’t believe that attitude encourages generosity or brotherhood.

Soon, mankind will become superfluous and can safely die out without our industry being compromised.

We’re moving in a direction that favors the strong and fittest amongst us. Things are being put in place to ensure the weaker links perish or destroy themselves.

I heard FEMA has already stockpiled a lot of body bags for the occasion.

But really, "the strong and fittest" only means those that are needed to develop and maintain the machines. As soon as the machines can do that as well, they can go, too.

That's right, and thank you. But as I look again at his post, it doesn't seem to refer to my post anyway.

Your comment was kind of cold.

What does that part refer to?
