After 20 years i have finally decided to quit smoking. I am 36 years old and I quit drinking a while back as im a bad binge drinker. I promised this to my gf and said a prayer declaring my intentions and she was a witness to this. If anyone has any moral advice then let me know.

As to moral advice I think you're doing the right thing. If you want some practical advice look into getting a prescription for Chantix. It helps a lot.

Defiantly a good thing to do for yourself and others to quit smoking.

You must understand that you are addicted to a drug, Nicotine and the Tabaco companies have set it up to keep you addicted. I had tried everything and finally was able to break free by quitting cold turkey. Nicotine is out of your body in three days, after that its all in your mind.

I recommend the book, "The Easy Way" by Allen Carr it has a ton of information to help educate you on what to expect.

My mother had been smoking her whole life, and tried to quit so many times. Recently, she had to go in for colon surgery and knew she would be in the hospital for a week, so she decided to use that time to quit smoking. She found that it was not as hard as she thought it was going to be. Granted, she couldn't smoke in the hospital, she was bed-ridden and had no access to cigarettes. It only took a week to break the habit, and she never complained of cigarette cravings.

My point... she tried for so many years, but it was more of a psychological addiction than a physical addiction, which she was able to break by diversion.

I pray you'll be able to quit smoking.

I never found the appeal of smoking. Tried it a few times.. never did anything for me other than burning my eyes from the smoke hitting me in the face, lol.

I like drinking. Although for health reasons I should probably cut back too. At least with drinking it gives me some kind of buzz.

That’s great! I quit after 12 years in 2020. It’s really only an issue for the first few months. You won’t crave it or even find the smell or idea of smoking appealing anymore after a year. You’ll be absolutely fine - if you find you are struggling to abstain and your regular coping strategies don’t work, your doctor can recommend a plethora of helpful temporary supplements. You’re doing the right thing!

Cast all our cares on Him...all. Give them all and don't look back then He will do it. My dad not saved at the time quit smoking.. I forget how long.. 30-40+ years in one day.

Keep in mind, the same companies and Government that profit off selling you Cigarettes, also make and profit off the (NRT) Nicotine Replacement Therapies. The NRT keeps you in a constant state of withdrawal, so 80 to 90 percent of people that use them fail to quit.

Chantix and Wellbutrin are different, not NRT. I think Chantix is banned now after so many people having major psychological problems with it, they are/like anti-depressants.

It has been a strange few days, for sure. My incentive to quit came after an argument with my girlfriend here in China over where to live at the end of my contract. I went to stay a few days with a friend and found myself going out drinking for an entire afternoon when I had already been doing so well for months. My friend owns a bar here and was tempted to go from the place I was hanging out to his bar to conclude my binge, but something told me to just get back to his apartment and rest, which I did. I was laying on the sofa where I was sleeping when I decided I did not want to lose my girlfriend and said I was going to see her first thing when I woke up and start my clean life all over again. This turned out to be the right choice, as if I had gone to the bar that night, I would have had to deal with an incident where some drunk dude was trying to start fights with people and pulled a knife on some customers but was restrained by my friend (he's a big guy) and luckily nobody got hurt. When I heard about this, I knew this was some form of divine intervention, and I have fixed things with my girlfriend and we are planning a future where we can at least try to make things work.

I quit smoking in 2016. The hard part for me was the positive association with smoking. All my happy memories as a child were filled with family smoking in them. Had to create new memories.

Its been over a week and i am doing well and have not smoked or had anything to drink and have no intentions to. Im going back to the UK for a while at end of this month to spend time with the family and there is a church close to my house and will be spending some there too.

Research shows, if one manages to stay away from smoking for at least 1 month, they stand a better chance of quitting for good.

You have made a very wise decision as smoking is bad for your health. There are things like chest infections, lung cancers and other cancers that one can develop from smoking. It is also an expensive habit to maintain as cigarettes are becoming more expensive.

There are loads of things you could try out, like gum, patches and vaping. I'm not sure whether it is safe to vape for a long time though as some believe that vaping can be harmful too. I guess all these things have their disadvantages too.

After a year back in the UK taking care of things I moved back to Guangzhouto resume my career in education (I don’t want to hear anyones input about where I live unless you have something nice to say otherwise don’t bother saying anything negative). I am now living a very clean life and im straight edge (without the punk music as it’s a terrible genre) and I have settled down with my girlfriend with whom we reunited. I only look towards to the future as a good christian and hard working man whos goal is to make a more than comfortable living. My strongest drink is a pepsi and my indulgence is going for nice days out and enjoying lovely food. My hobbies are keeping fit and playing video games. I love god, family and all the great things in the world xxx
