  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes, there were days and years before expulsion. There were days and years before Adam.
Then I would say that from the day Adam was made until the day he died was the number of years that the Bible says (930, I think). So, according to a literal reading of Genesis, the universe was 930 years old when Adam died.

Or 950 or 960, if Adam came on the scene as a 20 or 30-year-old.

Genesis 5:5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.

Notice it does not say how old Adam was when he died.

It says how many years he lived.

The difference is embedded age.

I guess the question is when did the 6000 year clock start.
The 6,000-year figure is calculated by working backward through the genealogies to the year of Adam's creation.

From Genesis 5:

When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God.

Male and female he created them, and he blessed them and named them Man when they were created.

When Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth.

The days of Adam after he fathered Seth were 800 years; and he had other sons and daughters. Thus all the days that Adam lived were 930 years, and he died.
It's difficult to postulate Adam's creation date as any year other than about 6,000 years ago. While it's true that Jews sometimes left names out of their genealogies, the genealogies that are most relevant for this issue (in Gen 5 and Gen 11) have a more precise form. You can see an example of that precision in the quote above.

No. An apple created as fully ripe 5 minutes ago is only 5 minutes old. 5 minutes after he was created, Adam was only 5 minutes old, regardless of how old he looked.

You left out a very important qualifier: existentially.

Remember my formula for determining the amount of embedded age for something created during the creation week?

Physical Age - Existential Age = Embedded Age

Nope. That has nothing to do with the amount of time that has passed since Adam was made. Embedded age means absolutely nothing.

No, that is not what I said. Where do you get his age when he was made? Source?

You just go by the walking, talking, and naming every kind of animal
in existence. Oh, and he gets the girl. Boys don't choose to spend
much time with girls until a certain age.

That is sort of true. But to be useful (ripe) it needs to have all the
properties of an "aged" apple. So by examination with an MRI or any testing
you choose, it will have all the properties of something "older."

It would have the appearance of embedded age. Or perhaps it very simply
"aged" in God's mind before he created it. Mis-using Occams ideas, that
is the likely answer.

I just made it up.

Every picture of Adam I've seen, shows him coming on the scene as a 20 or 30 year old.

You NEVER see Adam as a baby, except in scientific literature, where he is referred to as y-Adam.

Which, of course, isn't the same Adam we know.

Are there features that an apple with embedded age would not have? Would an apple created 5 seconds ago have scabbed and healed worm holes? Would a newly created Adam have scars from injuries he never had?

Then he is still naming them, I take it. ;)

That was a specific historical account of an event.
Just as it reads. You can also note that he died.
That was bound to happen because of the path he chose.

Linnaeus took the reigns in that department.

That's why we're all considered Homo.

You still haven't supported your comment that Adam was 20 or 30 when he was created. I'm curious as how you arrive at that. Maybe from pictures depicting them?
