  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That would be a profoundly dishonest way of being an atheist, and I don't think you'll find many atheists like that.

For me, it's not a matter of accepting or rejecting. I can't choose what I believe, no more than I can choose to like peppers :)sick:) or hate chocolate :)yum:). It's just that I've never seen a convincing sign that God (or any other god) exists. I would be lying if I pretended to believe in God, and that has nothing to do with whether I want to believe in him or not.
I agree, how can a person make themselves believe something that they don't believe is true?
How can they disbelieve something they think is true?
I believe Jesus rose from the grave, and I believe he will return to give us eternal life too. But I can't make anyone else believe that.

Do you accept the christian notion that you are a sinner? If so, do you wish to be released from the slavery of sin?

No, atheist don't believe in the concept of "sin".

If we knew he existed, we wouldn't be atheists.

You will find all of your arguments falling flat, as you are arguing from a position they do not share.

I wouldn't call "differing of opinions" as someones "problem".

Lillen said:

If that happened, that might be the case.

Lillen said:

The reason I posted the question here, is because it is here most atheists hang out!

Why would they, if they believed?

That would mean they know he does and lie about saying they don't.

I'm sure there's some passage (cue AV) that talks about how that's a bad thing.

From my observations, the more religious someone is, the more enslaved they actually seem. I see nothing liberating about being told I'm a miserable sinner for simply being alive & then groveling for the rest of my life. That's just pathetic & a horrible way to live.

It is just a gentle reminder, that you are allowed to chose God and the gospel... I pray to God that you will not be to proud or haughty when you are confronted with your sin!
May i ask another question: Do you know that God exist but reject him anyways?? Sometimes while arguing with Atheists i get the hint that that is their problem!!

Thanks for the gentle reminder. Do the pitchforks come out next?

And I can't tell if you really believe what you do (by what you're asking), or if you're playing the perfect parody of a fundy christian. Sometimes it's hard to tell.

But no, I've never heard of an atheist who believed in but rejected god. That actually sounds more like the typical backsliding christian than your christian definition of an atheist.

Okay. I'll give you a gentle reminder that you are allowed to practice the Hindu dharma, and thus escape the cycle of reincarnations, and to avoid reincarnating as a cockroach.

Is that reminder convincing at all to you?

May i ask another question: Do you know that God exist but reject him anyways??

If I did, I wouldn't be an atheist. I'm an atheist. I don't believe that God exists, or any god, goddess, or pantheistic ground of all being.

What you are talking about is a backsliding Christian. Some of those people may call themselves atheists, but they aren't atheists at all.

Sometimes while arguing with Atheists i get the hint that that is their problem!!

You are seeing what you want to see, not what is there in front of you.

I believe that you will be confronted with your creator before you die and i pray to God that you will chose a life with Him instead of a life in sin! One day you will have the revelation that you are a sinner, and actually know that God is true... That day, chose Jesus! you are allowed to chose Jesus!! You are allowed to believe in the gospel!! Remember that!

These are my definitions:

The Bible: a completely nonliteral, dramatic allegory, whether divinely inspired or not.

Sin: a narrative device used to create a conflict between the God character and mankind (Adam) in the Bible.

The Cross: The allegorical, dramatic resolution to the conflict between God and man introduced in the Garden of Eden, Knowledge of Good and Evil story.

Atonement: an intellectual attempt at a literal interpretation of a nonliteral text, that attempts to explain how a counter-intuitive, fantastic, allegorical idea (that for our sake an all-powerful God HAD to send Jesus to the planet and couldn't have saved us any other way) logically makes sense in reality.

Yes, I accept that according to the Bible, I am for all intents and purposes a pretty awful sinner. However, according to the Bible everyone is a sinner, there is even an inherent original sin.
I think that a biblical sin is a mere scare tactic, and actually those trying to avoid sin are enslaved.
For the most sins I commit I have not even a slightly bad conscience.

That is the problem with sin. The consequences are NOT right away. When we do end up having to pay the price for our sin, it is a LOT worse and a LOT more then what we thought we were going to have to pay. I like to know up front what the cost is going to be. When you deal with God, then you know it all from the beginning. When you deal with sin and the devil then you just don't know what your getting yourself into and how much it is going to cost you.

It would help if the list of sins was a) readily apparent, and b) intuitively obvious. Not only is there little consensus on whether gay marriage constitutes a sin, even if it is, there's no obvious (or even subtle) reason why. Secular morals are destroying America, one victimless crime at a time :)

I praise God for your boldness to confront these with their religion of "Nothing created everthing." bunk. That is why they hang out on A christian site. they think of this "nothing" 24/7, but unfortunately they are willfully choosing hell, because they know or hey would not even be on here.

So what is the fascination with:"Christian" forum then? Perhaps you are not able to read. Monkeys can't read and neither can an amoeba for that matter.:amen:

Do you accept the christian notion that you are a sinner?

What a degrading concept. Absolutely not.

If so, do you wish to be released from the slavery of sin?

Is there not a more fitting forum for your failing attempt at proselytizing?

I believe that you will be confronted with your creator before you die and i pray to God that you will chose a life with Him instead of a life in sin!

Good for you. I do not believe that we will be confronted by God no more than you will be confronted by Thor or Aphrodite.

I choose my life and live it accordingly. Simple as that.

One day you will have the revelation that you are a sinner, and actually know that God is true... That day, chose Jesus! you are allowed to chose Jesus!! You are allowed to believe in the gospel!! Remember that!

The greatest revelation I ever had was the realization that there is no God. Though this is my personal belief, I see no point in wasting another moment of my life devoted to a religion and its God.

The comedic value. What else?

But seriously, what's the problem? I like discussing religion & science. In a religion-saturated world, it has and still affects me, sometimes in very negative ways. But I suspect it's mostly because I find it interesting that adults can still believe it. I see a lot of religious cognitive dissonance from time to time. Very, very interesting.

Monkeys can't read and neither can an amoeba for that matter.:amen:
Ok? You need to try harder than that.

Why do you think Atheists say that? I also wasn't aware that we ever established that there was nothing before the big bang...

That is why they hang out on A christian site. they think of this "nothing" 24/7, but unfortunately they are willfully choosing hell, because they know or hey would not even be on here.
Yes, we come here because we are all secretly part of your belief system and wish to save ourselves from your fictional punishment. (ego centrism much?)
