I didn't know the English name of this bird until now, it's apparently "great spotted woodpecker". In my mother tongue we call it just "colorful woodpecker".

Nice bird, what was it looking at?

Ooh I love mallard ducks! Once when I was walking on a trail around a lake where there are loads of them, I saw a female that was just standing in the middle of the trail, so I said "hello" and she followed me for about a mile halfway around the lake before she saw a break in the shrubbery that she liked and went off into the lake! People walkng the trail the other way really gave us some strange looks!

This is the January bird in the bird wall calendar I have! While we have woodpeckers in my area, we don't have this particular woodpecker, so it's neat to see another view of it!

@bekkilyn Once a couple of mallard ducks landed in our pond to take a bath. The pond looked terrible afterwards because they swirled up the ground so much :D

Here they are taking off again. Typically: the female gracefully, the male like a rocket through the ceiling.
